word count: 647Lights were dim, only coming from the setting sun's mellow rays drifting softly through the window and the candles being lit by a slender hand, belong to a brunet with light blue, almost grey eyes. A soft hum left his lips as he pulled back the match, shaking the flame out. All the candles were lit, and the table was set. Of course, he was dressed up as well: a simple tux to match the occasion, and he'd be damned if his partner didn't do the same. In his own words, Alucard would not be coming into the dining room or kitchen if he wasn't dressed to match the occasion. The occasion, of course, needn't be mentioned. It was their anniversary, after all, and Gusion would literally kill Alucard if he didn't remember. So, he stood at the entrywag of the kitchen, leaning on the side of the entrance's wall as he waited, gaze set on the doorway visible from where he stood. The blond should be arriving home sometime soon; it was one of those rare times that Alucard had a set time where he knew he would be back by at the latest. Gusion figured he'd be a little late due to the fact Alucard more than likely wouldn't be fighting in a tux. If he did, though.. Gusion wouldn't like to think of how stupid such an act would be.
The sound of the door opening broke Gusion from his thoughts, and he straightened from his slouched position as Alucard entered his sight. The blonde's hair was slightly ruffled,--on all the days his damned hair had to not be perfect, of course--but the hunter had, in fact, gotten dressed for thr occasion. Probably had stopped somewhere in the Empire's capital city to do so after he'd reported the results of his mission. An eyebrow was rose as Alucard caught Gusion's judgmental gaze, as if to ask if he'd dressed up enough. Gusion merely rolled his eyes and uncrossed his arms, walking back into the kitchen and then to conjoined dining room. In all honestly, Gusion didn't care about how Alucard looked; it was just the effort that mattered and meant the most to him.
Alucard soon entered the dining room as well, pausing in his step to admire how well set-up it was. After the pause, he dragged his eyes away from the captivating feast and looked over at Gusion, asking, "How many people did it take to help you make this?"
"You-" Gusion started, face flushing. He refused to tell Alucard that he had, in fact, had to have had been helped making the dinner. Cooking wasn't his specialty--it had almost been something close to a miracle that he'd managed to make a damn decent cake for Alucard on his birthday that tasted good without help. And, of course, without burning anything.
Alucard laughed, a joyous thing to Gusion's ears (it always would be), and walked over, giving Gusion a peck on the cheek. "I?" He teased, a smirk on his face.
"I swear, I will literally lock you outside--"
"Okay, okay, I apologize, fine--"
"Good." Gusion hummed, a smirk on his own face as he gave Alucard a peck on the cheek back. "Now, if you've decided to stop being an ass, would you like to eat, love?"
Alucard's smirk faded into a smile. "Gladly, dearest."
The two sat down and ate their dinner, bantering as they held hands, fingers interlaced. In the end, it really didn't matter what they wore or what tragedy or poisoning that wouldve happened if Gusion was left alone cooking in the kitchen; all that did mattered is that they were together, and they had been for a while now. Such would continue to be for whatever remainder of life they had within them.
Love.
Such a beautiful thing to share with another.
