In another world; ch 30.
Juliet’s POV.
Whoever was in the chair turned around.
I gasped. Ryan cursed silently under his breath. But then, I immediately relaxed; it was only the regular librarian.
“Oh, dear! I’m so sorry. Did I scare you?” She let out a little laugh. She was around her 50’s or so, but was really nice. “No! I’m sorry!” I said nervously. “What happened to the substitute librarian?” I asked her. She looked confused. “Sub librarian? I was told that the library was closed ever since I was out.” I shook my head slowly. “No. I was up here about three days ago! You weren’t here; a man named Mark was filling in for you! The library was opened.” The librarian now got up. “Couldn’t have been. Everything’s in its place and nothing is missing. If there was possibly a sub here, there’s a machine near the door that would be able to tell us.” She explained. “I checked it this morning, the last time someone was up here was at least 4 days ago, and that was me.” I felt as if my jaw was just possibly about to fall to the floor. “Impossible,” I whispered. “Are you feeling okay, Juliet?” The librarian asked. “Are you trying to call me crazy? Insane?” I accused. “I know someone was up here! His name was Mark, and he was on the computer, and everything! There were even a few teachers up here with us, but I don’t remember who!” I huffed, pinching the bridge of my nose. “Relax, Juliet. He’s not here anymore, so you won’t have to worry.” Ryan said, squeezing my hand. I squeezed his hand back, but looked at the librarian behind her desk. “May I look at the machine and surveillance camera?” I asked. She gave me a sweet smile and indicated with her hands for me to come to her. “Come on.” She said, and I ran over to her desk.
Ryan’s POV.
Juliet ran off with the librarian. They went into a different room, so I looked around the huge library. It was so quiet, even my breathing could be heard. I began to slowly walk around, looking at the books on the shelves. Something was wrong; very wrong. And there it was.
On the floor, lay out a book about Wolves and Coyotes. I glared at it. Something was going on. I looked around once more, before dropping to the floor to check out the book. Something was sticking out of the book. I turned to the page, and there was a huge emerald necklace. My eyes widened, and my mouth opened in awe. “Holy shi-“I said, and someone cleared their breath. I looked up, to see Markus. I glared at him. “Well, hello there, Ryan. I was looking for something...” He said.
“What the hell do you want?” I growled. He smirked. “Oh, well excuse me. You know, it is still surprising to see you alive. Is your girlfriend alive? What about Zac? Or Noah? Man, I screwed that kid up pretty bad.” Markus let out a laugh, looking satisfied. “For your information, my girlfriend just happened to save all of our asses.” I said, returning the smirk. “Damn. I knew I should have kept her. The girl is strong. And hot.” He said, licking his lips. I ignored his comment; I’d have to deal with that later. “What are you even doing here? You got away with it the first time, why are you going to try a second time?” I asked him. He rolled his eyes, and clicked his tongue, looking pretty irritated. “Well, a long, long, long time ago, your birth parents, or whatever you’d like to call them, also locked up an emerald necklace. With that, you can do anything. I mean anything. You have the chance to mimic any power- and even keep every one of them. Phew, let’s not even start with the list. That is one hell of a long list.” Markus went on. I immediately shoved the necklace in my hood’s pockets. I bit my lip, remembering that there was a huge chance Markus could read my thoughts. I made sure not to think about “whatever” was in my pocket. “Ryan?” Juliet called. “You might want to get going,” I smirked at Markus. “If she finds out you’re here, she’s totally going to set this shit on fire.” I said. “Damnit,” Markus screeched. “Well, until next time, see you! Oh, and you might want to watch out for your girlfriend, before I end up taking her for myself.” He gave me a wink, and I just gave him the middle finger. “I’ll keep that in mind,” I mumbled, and Markus disappeared. “Asshole,” I muttered, and got up, putting the book back in its desired place. I got up off the ground, and turned around to see Juliet coming towards me. “It’s weird,” She whispered. “I didn’t see anything. He wasn’t there.”
