Your POV

A week. It's been a week since Rick told me that he wants to be more than friends, and I ran. Ran from what? Commitment? Love? Try the pain that comes with love. I don't know really, I didn't think about it I just did it. Sighing I laid my head on my desk in my room. I haven't left my room since he told me. Telling my parents that I've been sick.

Sick with love. Every time I look at the portal gun to go back over to see anyone in the Smith household, my heart feels like it might explode. But why? It only happens when I think about Rick and what he said, how vulnerable he looked when he told me. Shaking my head I pulled my legs up to my chest as I leaned back in my office chair.

Looking around the room at the different pictures of me with the Smith's. Some were from holidays that I spent with them and random things we did. Some were even spur of the moment pictures. There was one of Rick as he flipped me off. He had his flask in hand. It was probably a week before everything started. Before he agreed that he would try to change.

Standing I stood in front of the pictures that I took of him while he was working and wasn't paying any attention to me. How his unibrow bunched up in the middle when he focused on something. Feeling my heart start to sting I grabbed my shirt before I heard my phone go off. Grabbing it I opened the message to see that it was from Summer.

Wanna come over for dinner? We're having your favorite.

Texting back that I would be over in a bit I looked at the portal gun before I shook my head and grabbed my jacket and shoes before leaving without it. I could walk this time. Give myself time to think.

Rick's POV

Sitting on the couch I felt hands on my shoulders as I looked behind me to see Summer. She smiled at me before she tilted her head. "(y/n)'s coming over" she said. Nodding gently I watched her walk away before my girlfriend turned the corner. She sat next to me and put my arm over her shoulders.

This was the result of me at the bar that I went to after (y/n) left. I wanted to drown myself in alcohol but then this one started to talk to me. There was a one night stand, and after that when she didn't come back around for a few days I called. Now here we are. I'm in a relationship with a girl I don't even know the last name of. One that I picked up at a bar. This must be how people see me. The drunk scientist that picks up random girls only to throw them to the curb without a second thought.

Hearing a knock on the door Morty went to answer it as I stared blankly at interdimensional TV. He said her name as he opened it before she gave a small greeting. Her voice was lower than usual, she probably wasn't really up to coming back over here. Not since what happened. Standing up I made my way towards the garage before I heard my daughter's voice.

"Dad! (y/n) is here, come see her"

Stopping I turned around and my girlfriend followed. Leaning on the archway as Beth was setting up the table for dinner, grabbing an extra chair from a small closet and setting down on one of the ends. Looking at the floor and not at her I introduced her to my girlfriend.

"(Y/n) this is my girlfriend, Irene."

Hearing her hum as she scanned the girl we sat down and got ready to eat.  I sat in my usual seat with Irene next to me. Jerry and Beth sat on the ends like usual with Summer in that extra seat next to him. Morty was in front of me, leaving Irene across from (y/n).

Your POV

I tried my best not to just leave the house after that little introduction. He said he wanted to be more than friends and here his ass is with a fucking girlfriend. This is new, why do I feel this way? Am I jealous? I can't be, not over a skank like that. He probably picked her up at the bar, meaning that he lied to me again.

Eating slowly I heard Beth speak up. "So, (y/n) you haven't been around often, everything all right?" she asked. I hummed gently as i nodded not looking at her. "I haven't been feeling the greatest these last couple of days." I said and she nodded.

The room fell silent before I glanced up to see Rick's new girlfriend staring at me. She squinted her eyes as I looked back at her. What was this bitch's deal? If she wants to fight me she won't win. Morty stood up to rinse his place as he was finished, Summer followed shortly after sensing the atmosphere at the table. She put the chair she sat on back into the closet from earlier. Beth and Jerry finished soon enough and it was just us three left at the table.

Glancing up at the two I saw her get his attention before planting a kiss on his lips. Dropping my fork I stood quickly as I put the napkin that was on my lap onto the plate. "I just remembered I have some things to do" I said as I stared at a smirking Irene. Beth turned the corner and nodded gently. "Have a nice night, hun" she said and I nodded gently. "Thanks for dinner" she gave me a quick hug before I slipped my shoes back on and opened the door. Closing it behind me I took off towards my house.

~Four Days Later~

Sitting on my bed I looked at the ceiling. Blinking and looking over to a wall as a portal opened up I saw Rick step through it, no Morty. I rolled over on my side as I faced the wall and pulled my jacket around me more. "Go away." i said as I felt him sit on the bed behind me.

"You said you would never leave me, that you'd always be my friend"

"I know what I said, you have a girlfriend now and she can take my place"

"I broke up with her."

Turning my head a little as I listened more. I heard him continue talking. His voice was low and filled with regret.

"When you left during dinner I decided that was enough. I ended things with Irene. I don't want her to be the reason that you push me away. I don't want to live in a world that you aren't with me. I need you in my life."

Turning to look at him he looked over at me and we held the gaze for a second. Sitting up I looked at him. "I haven't been around because, I've been avoiding you. That's difficult when I have a portal gun, and a bunch of pictures with you in it." looking down I felt a hand on mine. Raising my eyes up to see him he smiled gently at me. "There's another reason isn't there?"

"Why must you always read into everything?"

"I'm a scientist, that's what I do"

Smiling gently I nodded a little. "I didn't know how to react when you told me you wanted to be more than friends. I still really don't" Nodding he looked over to me. "Let's start with something simple, how did it make you feel?"

Nodding gently I thought for a moment. "I uh, had a lot of feelings. There was surprise, and I couldn't hear over my heartbeat. But mostly it was love." I said as I looked at him. He smiled gently as he looked over at me. Before I knew it he had leaned down and kissed me. Kissing back gently I leaned closer to him. He pulled back as he looked at me.

"Will you be my girlfriend?"

"Is that really a question?"

He chuckled before he leaned down and kissed me again. Returning it and letting it linger a little I pulled back as I looked at him. "No matter how much you mess up, I'm still going to love you"
