Your POV

I was on the couch not too far from Summer as she was on her phone texting her boyfriend. I was reading a science weekly when I heard the garage open and a car crash in knocking over a shelf. Standing as I smiled before I made my way into the garage. Rick and Morty were just getting out when Morty saw me first.

"(y/n) you're here!" He said and ran over hugging me, I giggled.

"Hey Morty. Why wouldn't I be here?" I asked.

He rubbed the back of his neck after he let me go. "I-I don't r-really know. W-why are you here anyway? N-not th-that its a problem or anything!" He stuttered only to be interrupted by Rick.

"Morty! Sh-shUT U-up before you make her mad." He said as he slammed the car door and drank from his flask.

I smiled at the older man. "Hi Rick." I said and he glanced at me. "Hi Sweetie." he said. I looked at Morty who ran inside shrugging.

Walking over to where Rick was working on a gadget and sat on the table. "So.." I said.

He continued working but I knew he was listening.

"Where'd you guys go this time?" I asked.

He looked at me for a second. "We went to another dimension as usual. Why do you ask?" He asked and returned to his work.

"You normally go for some reason. What was it this time?" I asked

"I don't know, sweetie. Get out of the house I guess." he said lowly and flipped a switch on his device, turning it on.

"Hey, you fixed it." I said. He smirked at me and burped.

"Why wouldn't I? I am a genius!" he said making me giggle and him smile.

"Dad!" we heard. Beth and Jerry came in and looked pissed. Rick frowned knowing he was about to be scolded.. again. You'd think the Father would be the one scolding not the one being scolded. I looked down slightly to not pay attention but I was listening to every word as if it would be the last I'd hear.

"How could you?" Beth said dramatically. "How could I what?" Rick asked confused as one side of his monobrow rose up.

"You took our son to another dimension for him to return pregnant! Pregnant with parasites!" Jerry said.

Rick sighed. "He'll be fine. The parasites WONt HUrt him he'll give birth to them and then I'll kill them. Simple as that." he stated with a no-big-deal sort of attitude.

I hated it when they yelled at him like this. He didn't deserve it. Sure, he can be careless at times. But who isn't? Rick went into the kitchen for a drink and they followed still screaming in his ear. I followed. Rick was almost back to the garage door when I had it.

"Enough!" I yelled making them stop and look at me surprised. Summer looked up from her phone and Morty looked over confused. Rick turned around surprised with one hand on the door and his other was holding his beer.

"Why can't you guys give him a break?" I sighed for a second to calm down. "Sure he's careless at times but who isn't? Look at how Summer got here. You two on prom night or did you forget?" I watched as Beth and Jerry looked at each other before looking down.

"Why are you defending him?" Jerry mumbled.

"Because I think he's misunderstood!" I said confidently. "Sure he's a drunk and seems to not care. But don't you think maybe that's how he is because he wants people to think he's just a  scientist? So what he isn't a perfect Father, or Grandpa. But I think he is. And he loves all of you! So when he's a drunk or looks like he isn't listening remember the phrase he always says 'Wubba Lubba Dub Dub'. It means that he's in pain. So when he's drunk it means he wants to forget his pain. A pain that you cause. Because all you care about are yourselves. So cut the man some slack and get off his back." I said and drew in a sigh. They nodded and walked away going back to their things ashamed.

I had heard the garage door open and close a bit ago. During my little rage. I turned around and walked into the garage. i found Rick hunched over in his chair. He was looking down his beer was on the table unopened.

"Did you mean all of that?" he asked quietly.

I walked over to him a bit. "What do you mean?" I asked.

"That i'm misunderstood." He said and looked at me.

"I mean. Yeah I think you are. I know I haven't been here long but I can tell that about you. I can see passed the drunk façade you have." I said gently. He nodded and looked down again before turning his chair to face me.

I saw his shoulders start to shake a bit. I frowned as I saw him reach his hands to his face and his sobbing became clear. I walked over to him and knelt down in front of him. He grabbed me and pulled me to his lap with a hug. I smiled and hugged him.

After he was done sobbing I pulled away to look at him and to wipe his face. "I didn't think anyone would understand." he said quietly.

"Well I do. And I always will." I said and hugged him again.

"You were wrong about one thing though." he said. I looked at him. "What was it?" I asked.

"I love them. But I also love you." he said.

I smiled. "I love you too." At that moment  I saw a genuine smile spread across his face. Something I can be safe to say hasn't been there in a very long time. (1052 words
