Lucy's POV

.

I woke up the next morning in Dan's bed. I don't remember coming in here... I turn over and see Dan on the other side of the bed. I'm still in my clothes from yesterday, so I must've fallen asleep on the couch, and Dan carried me in here. I lay there for a moment, watching Dan sleep. His facial features are so relaxed. He looks so peaceful. I want to wake him up, to talk to him, to see his beautiful eyes, to see his charming smile, to hear his laugh. I don't, though, because I don't want to disturb his slumber. So instead, I lay there, watching him. I reach for my phone, which Dan must have brought in here last night, and check the time. It's only 9:15, so I put my phone away and turn towards Dan again. The room is silent, except the sounds of his soft breathing. In, out, in, out, in, out... The rhythm is steady. It's relaxing. I almost want to close my eyes and go back to sleep, but then I would miss this moment.

When I pull my phone out again, it's 9:35. I reach up and start to play with Dan's now curly hair. He stirs a bit, but doesn't wake up. I wrap small strands around my fingers and release them. They become curlier each time I do this. I trail my fingers lightly down his head, to his face, to his shoulder, down his arm, stopping at his hand. I play with his fingers, and they intertwine themselves with mine. I look up from our hands to see Dan smiling, eyes still closed.

"Good morning, Lucy," he says. His morning voice is extremely sexy, and I almost melt.

"Morning, Daniel," I reply. He opens one of his eyes slightly, just to look at me, then releases my hand. His arm snakes around my waist as he gently pulls me closer to him. Once I'm close enough to his liking, he reclaims my hand as places a soft kiss to my forehead. "Did you sleep well?" I ask, pushing my head against his shoulder.

"I slept wonderful," he replies, rubbing small circles into my hand with him thumb. "How did you sleep?"

"Great," I answer. "It's the best I've slept since..." I trail off. He pulls me closer, knowing exactly what I'm thinking of.

"Is Lucy short for something?" He changes the subject, taking me by surprise.

"What do you mean?" I look up at him. His eyes are open now, and they look straight into mine.

"You know, Dan is short for Daniel. Is Lucy short for something? Lucille, maybe?"

"No, it's just Lucy." I answer, nuzzling my head into his bare chest. He smells amazing, like cologne and mint.

"Hmm," he hums. I feel the vibration in his chest tickle my nose. I move my head and kiss his shoulder, and he squeezes my hand.

I feel so comfortable here, laying next to him. I feel safe, like nothing can hurt me. I close my eyes, melting into him. He sighs softly and puts his arm around my waist again. I lay there for a bit, listening to his heartbeat. I almost drift off to sleep when he snaps me out of my daze.

"Lucy," he almost whispers.

"Hmm?"

"It's your birthday tomorrow," he squeezes my waist before resting his hand on the small of my back, just under my shirt. I shiver slightly at his touch. It seemed so magical.

"It is, isn't it?"

"I still have no damn clue what to get you."

I laughed a little. "Dan, you don't have to get me anything."

"Of course I do. You're my girlfriend, it's required," he chuckled. I froze and looked up at him.

"Girlfriend?"

"Yeah."

"You think I'm your girlfriend?"

His expression changed from happy to nervous. "Do you want to be?"
