Lucy's POV

.

We ate breakfast at a small cafe near the London Eye, where Dan and I first went on together. Where I had a panic attack because it stopped. Luckily, Dan didn't bring that up while we ate. It was great. Dan refused to let me pay, insisting that it was part of my special celebration.

"Come on, Dan. At least let me pay for myself." I begged.

"No, Lucy. This is part one of my gift for you," he told me, handing a few bills to the cashier.

I sighed, but gave in. He was being so cute about it, I couldn't just tell him no. We walked out and Dan made an immediate right. I walked up next to him, and he took my hand.

"Oh you two, quit being so cute," Phil pointed at us. I giggled.

"Awwww, someone's jealous," Dan smirked at him.

"Am not!" Phil argued.

"Don't worry, Philly. We won't forget about you." I ruffled his hair, and he laughed.

"Of course you won't. Im unforgettable." he said, fixing his hair.

"But I'm the California girl?" I raise an eyebrow at him.

"Oh, ha ha,"

I wink at him. "So, Dan, where to next."

"Nope," he holds up a finger. "Not telling you."

"Why not?" I whined.

"Because," he said, tapping my nose with his finger. "It's a surprise."

"A pretty good surprise, too." Phil added.

I stuck out my bottom lip, and Dan chuckled.

"No pouting. You're going to love it," he squeezed my hand, and I squeezed it back.

"Fine. Only because you're cute."

.

Dan's POV

.

She called me cute? She's the cute one.

I can't wait for her to see the surprise! She's going to love it. I hope.

I've been panicking, trying to figure out the perfect surprise for her. Phil was helping me, as well. I wanted to do something fun, but not crazy. We ran through at least fifteen ideas before finally deciding- there was a carnival in town. Today was the last day of it, too. There would be booths, dancers, and floats. I just really hope she likes it.

We are about two blocks from it now. I started tapping my fingers against my leg about five minutes ago. Please like it, please like it, please like it.

I stop just before we turn onto the street where the Notting Hill Carnival is held. I turn Lucy so that she's facing me and grab both her hands.

"Lucy, you are about to see your surprise. I want you to be completely honest with me. If you don't like it, we can leave. I haven't paid for anything yet so you don't have to worry about that. Just please tell me wether you like it or not." She looks at me for a second before nodding at me. I squeeze her hands, and we make our turn. We walk down a but before coming across the music and dancers in colorful clothes. It looks like a rainbow threw up on the streets of London. Lucy stops, and I freeze. She doesn't like it. What was I thinking? Her mouths parts slightly, forming a small 'o' shape. I can't read her expression.

"Lucy?" She looks at me. "I'm sorry, this was a bad idea. We can leave if you want."

Just then, she breaks out into a huge smile. Her eyes are sparkling with excitement. "Are you kidding? I love it!"

I let out a breath of relief. "Oh thank god. Surprise!" She giggles.

"Dan was worried sick. He wasn't sure what to do at all. He was panicking trying to decide what you would like. You should've seen him." Phil rests a hand on my shoulder.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever," I mumble.

Lucy giggles again. "I think it's cute." she stands on her toes to give me a kiss on the cheek. Almost instantly, I feel my face heat. Luckily, neither of them saw.

"So, it's supposed to be completely Caribbean themed. Caribbean food, dancing, clothes, etcetera." I explain to Lucy.

"It sounds amazing." She smiles at me.

"Well, come on then. Let's go!" Phil starts walking ahead of us. Lucy grabs my hand and pulls me forward, in the direction of the parade.

.

"That's the most fun I've had since my parents." Lucy tells me later. We're sitting in the tube on the way home. I wrap my arm around her shoulders, and she leans into me. "Thank you, both."

"It was Phil's idea," I tell her.

"Well, it was Dan's idea to surprise you." Phil adds.

"You both get equal credit. I had a great birthday." she tells us both.

"Well, it's not over yet," I squeeze her shoulder. "It was Phil's turn to plan something."

"Yep! And you're going to love it," Phil winked at her. I knew exactly what Phil had planned. He has a series of games and challenges put together. I'm not sure what they all are, but it sounds fun.

.

Phil sent Lucy off to my room to do whatever she wanted while we set everything up. Phil wanted to do the 7 second challenge, so we put random items up everywhere to do with our challenges for her. Phil thought it would be fun to play truth or dare again, so we cleared out an area for that. We set out our video games for her to choose, and some other games. When it was all ready, Phil sent me to go get her. I knocked twice on the door before opening it.

"Lucy, your 19 year game room awaits you." She was lying on the bed, her back to me, looking on her phone. She turned around, and she looked shocked. Nervous, almost. "Lucy, what is it?" I walked over and sat on the bed, and she handed me her phone. She was on twitter, and open was a tweet including pictures of Lucy and I today at the carnival, holding hands, hugging, walking together. There's no clear image of her face, but it's obviously me.

"'Dan's Mystery Girl' and #WhoIsSheDan are both trending." She informs me. I stand there in silence. Is she mad? I can't tell. I'm not exactly sure what she's feeling.

"Dan?" She snaps me out of my thoughts. I raise my eyebrows at her. "What are we going to do?"

"I don't know. I mean, I was thinking... If you want, we could film a video and I could tell everyone about you." I pause to read her expression, which seems thoughtful. "If you're ready. It's up to you. Just know that if we do, you will receive hate. People are going to get jealous, and they will send you hate. I really don't want that for you..."

She sighs. "Okay. Alright, we can film the video. I'm ready." she looks up at me. "Are you ready?"

A smile covers my face. "Lucy, I've been wanting to tell the world about you." I take her hand in mine. "Just promise me one thing." I look down at our hands.

"Anything."

"Don't let anything they say get to you. Don't let them convince you that you're ugly, or worthless, or undeserving of me. Don't believe them if they say you're anything but perfect. Okay?"

"Deal," I squeeze her hand and pull her up.

"Ready for your birthday gaming ordeal?" She smiles at me.

"I'm so ready."
