FORKS, WASHINGTON
"I want to show you this pretty
meadow Edward used to take me," Bella explains as she leads Luka and Val through the thick trees.
"I doubt it looks how you last saw it, Bells, it's been months. We should just go back," Val suggests, an eerie feeling creeping on her. The demon grabs Luka's wrist, Bella not noticing that they stopped, "I'm not getting a good feeling about this. You stay with close to Bella and I'll be up in the trees."
Bella's gasp catches her attention and Val quickly runs to the tree line, watching Bella from above.
All the flowers in the meadow were gone, replaced by browning grass. Val looks at Bella as she looks around, almost about to cry. The human kneels down in shock and touches the ground softly. She never expected such a pretty place to look so dead.
A figure emerges from the trees, "Bella.." The creature says in a solemn tone.
"Laurent," Bella says his name in surprise.
"I didn't expect to find you here," The red-eyed vampire walks closer to her. Bella takes a sharp inhale, "I went to visit the Cullens, but the house is empty. I'm surprised they left you behind, weren't you sort of a...pet of theirs?"
"Yeah, you could say that.." Bella says unconvincingly.
"Do the Cullens visit often?"
"Yeah, absolutely, all the time," Bella lies terribly. "I'll tell them that you stopped by. I probably shouldn't tell," Bella takes a deep breath, "Edward," She clears her throat, "cause he's pretty protective."
"But he's far away, isn't he?" Laurent says, seeing through the human's lies.
"Why are you here?" Bella asks ignoring the question.
"I came as a favor to Victoria.."
"Victoria?" Bella asks surprised, almost shocked to hear the name again.
"She asked me to see if you were still under the protection of the Cullens. Victoria feels it's only fair to kill Edward's mate, given he killed hers. An eye for an eye," Laurent explains.
"Edward'd know who did it!" She blurts out, "and he'd come after you."
"I don't think he will. After all, how much could you mean to him if he left you here, unprotected." He sighs, "Oh, Victoria won't be happy about my killing you, but I can't help myself...you are so mouth-watering."
"Please don't," Bella pleads, "I mean, you helped us."
Laurent gets in Bella's face, "Sh sh sh sh, don't be afraid. I'm doing you a kindness. Victoria plans on killing you slowly, painfully. Whereas I'll make it quick, I promise. You'll feel nothing.." He whispers.
"Luka!" Bella screams and both Luka and Valentina take off.
Laurent takes a step at Bella as Valentina jumps from the trees, "Not on my watch!"
The demon quickly turns into her natural form, flying high, hissing at the vampire.
"I don't believe it.." Laurent says looking at the demon with wide eyes. His head snaps to the right where five horse-sized wolves walk out. They snarl and growl at Laurent. He makes a run for it and the wolves chase after him. At the last moment, Laurent turns around and punches the black wolf, sending him flying a few yards.
