I was struggling with this test. I thought it was going to be an easy test but I guess Miss Miller made sure that it was a little difficult for everyone.

I glanced up and caught sight of Miss Miller as she was sitting at her desk, looking through paperwork.

I started noticing every little thing about her and it frightened me a little. I was studying her instead of the paper that was laying out in front of me on my desk.

I leaned my chin against my palm as my elbow was propped up on the desk. I looked down at my paper and tried to finish before class was over.

As a few minutes passed, I finally finished. I walked to her desk and sat the paper down in front of her.

She looked up and the moment her eyes met mine, I felt something in the pit of my stomach.

Her lips curved into a smile. "Finished?" I nod as she grabbed the paper. "How do you think you did?"

"Hopefully good." I slightly chuckled.

She smiled at me. "I'll make sure you're the first one to know."

I smiled as I walked back to my desk. I looked towards the front as I watched Miss Miller sit at her desk while looking through some papers.

I averted my eyes away as I stared at the wall. I looked at all the different things that were on the wall and noticed how she hasn't really decorated it herself since she's been teaching here.

It's still covered in all of Mr. Frank's stuff.

As I was looking around at the walls, my eyes landed on Miss Miller, who was watching me and smiling.

I felt my face start heating up and I quickly placed my head on the desk.

I literally smacked my head on the desk.

My first instinct, go figure.

I didn't move because I knew Miss Miller saw it and she was probably laughing. I sat there and waited, as my forehead was hurting, until the bell rung.

When the bell finally rung, I leaned my head up and rubbed my forehead. I don't think I've ever did anything more embarrassing, and why the hell I did it, who knows.

I don't know what it is but MIss Miller is making me act weird.

As I grabbed my backpack and slung it over my shoulder, I started walking to the door as I was the last student out, but Miss Miller called my name.

"Skylar, stay back for a moment."

I stopped and looked towards her as she was gathering up some papers from her desk. I walked over to her and stood in front of the desk.

She looks up at me and smiles. "I graded your test."

I grab it and look at the top, which had a one hundred circled in red. I smiled at it then looked at her. "I thought for sure I wouldn't make such a good grade."

"Why not?" She asks. "You're the top in the class."

I shrug as I grabbed my backpack strap. "I try my best."

She watches me for a moment. "Are you ok?" I gave her a confused look. "Your forehead is red."

I rub the spot then look at her. "Uh, yeah." I knew she saw me but she didn't want to say anything about it.

She slightly smiles as she watches me. "Ok. Well, I'll see you around school."

I smile as I walk out of her classroom with my nerves to the roof for some odd reason.

-

"Can I go out?"

Dad stopped washing dishes to look at me. "For what?"

I shrug. "I just want to go for a ride."

He looks over at the wall. "It's four." I watch him for a moment until he nods. "Be home at six."

I thanked him then left the house.

I wasn't sure on where I was going because I didn't have a destination but that's what makes it more fun.

This town is known for a lot of things. There's so many stories here and it's hard to tell which one is real or fake.

I've lived here my whole life so I've heard these stories plenty of times, but I still don't know what is real or not.

Instead of driving around, I decided to park and walk around. I locked my car then got onto the sidewalk and walked passed the different stores.

I guess this town is pretty old because the buildings here look like they've been here for a while. That's one thing that makes this town look cool as hell.

As I was walking, I felt someone walking behind me. I ignored it because I didn't want to seem freaked out if it was someone who wanted to rob me, so I kept walking.

After a while, someone tapped my shoulder and I turned around to see Miss Miller smiling at me. She let out a laugh. "Did I scare you?"

"A little." I chuckled. "What are you doing?"

She shrugs. "Just walking the neighborhood. What are you doing?"

I smile. "Same."

"Can I walk with you?" She smiles.

I nod and we started walking together. It was weird how it seems like we're always seeing each other outside of school, but I ignored it as I was trying to keep my nerves down.

I couldn't wrap my head around any of this that I was feeling.

It was weird.

"What's on your mind?"

I look over to see her watching me and I shrug. "Nothing."

"So, how was school?"

We started walking in step together and I smiled as I watched our feet. "It was good."

"That's good to hear. Most students would tell me they had a terrible day or that they hate it."

I chuckle. "I hate school but not all my days are terrible." She smiles at me.

"Do you know where we're going?"

I look at her then look around. "I have no idea."

We stop and she laughs a little. "Well, it's good to have no destination in mind."

I smile at her as we stood there. It was silent between us but it wasn't awkward. I caught her staring at me and I couldn't help but feel my face heat up.

"What?"

She slightly laughed, but didn't say anything.

I gave her a confused look. "What's on your mind, Miss Miller?"

She looks somewhere else before looking back at me. "You can call me Julie." She smiles.

She looks somewhere else and it peaked my curiosity more. "Well?"

She slightly laughs. "I'm not really sure."

It seems as though she was having a hard time saying whatever was on her mind. She was avoiding eye contact, rubbing her arm and looking somewhere else.

She looks at me, after a few moments. "Skylar, I-"

Her phone starts ringing.

She steps back and answers it.

I stand there watching her as I was trying to figure out why she was telling me all of this.

My heart was fucking pounding though.

When she hung up, she looks at me. "Sorry. That was Ruth. I have to go."

She starts walking away but I quickly grab her arm. "Wait," she turns to look at me. "what were you going to say?"

"It doesn't matter." She searches my eyes. "I have to go, Skylar."

Before I had the chance to say or do anything, she walked away and was now out of sight.
