"Can you tell Miss Miller that I'm out sick? I won't be coming back until a few days." I said over the phone.
It was Nicole.
"Sure. I love you, Skylar. Please let me know if you need anything."
I smiled. "Of course."
I told Nicole and Brian what happened. They couldn't believe it but then again, they're the only ones that would believe it.
They know how Ana was, but they didn't know what she was capable of doing.
After hanging up, I sat there on the couch while watching tv but nothing good was on.
I heard the front door shut and dad walks in with a bag of McDonalds.
I smile as he handed me a bag. "Nuggets?"
He sat my drink on the table. "Yep. Twenty. Large fries. Sweet tea. Sweet 'n sour sauce."
"You're the best." I smiled as I pulled out the box of chicken nuggets.
He kisses my head then walks out of the living room.
I open the box then open the sauce and place it in the box. I dip a nugget in then pop it in my mouth as I focused my attention back on the tv.
It's been two days since and I honestly feel better but dad is still worried so he won't let me go back to school until a few more days.
It's nice that he cares, but I hate staying here. Plus, he's missing work because of me.
I couldn't help but think about Julie and my heart ached for her. I really wanted to see her because everything would just disappear and I wouldn't feel like this anymore.
I wish I had her number so I could call her, but I never got it.
Sitting at the house was boring and there was nothing to do. I ate all the food. There was nothing on tv good enough to watch. It was boring.
"Can I go back to school tomorrow?" I ask dad as he was sitting in the chair.
He looks up at me. "I don't know, Skylar. I don't think you're well enough."
"I feel fine." I say, which was the truth.
He sighs before rubbing his temple. "I'll see, ok?"
I nod then look back at the tv. "Have you heard from Ana?"
He looks at me then shakes his head. "No. Not sure what's going to happen yet. She still won't tell me anything."
"Because she knows what will happen once you find out the truth. She needs to go to the mental hospital." I mumbled.
"I need her side of the story." He says.
I shake my head. "Yeah, so you can take her side." It's useless arguing with him. "I'm going upstairs."
I shut my door then laid on my bed. I was tired of everything and just wanted to leave.
I grabbed my phone and sent a text to Nicole, telling her to bring my work to me.
After a moment, she texted back and I instantly felt my heart drop when I read the text.
"Miss Miller is bringing your work."
What.
She can't come here.
I started panicking but there wasn't anything I could do. I didn't want her coming here. I didn't want her seeing me like this.
Fuck.

When school ended, I was pretty much in shutdown mode as I was sitting on the couch, watching the clock.
My nerves were terrible.
Dad was sitting in the chair, reading. I was glancing between the tv and clock for the last hour.
I lean back and took a deep breath until I heard someone knock on the door. I look over at dad as he got up and walked out of the living room.
After a moment, I heard talking then dad called my name. I slowly got up and walked out of the living room.
"Your teacher came by to bring you some work."
I stopped when I saw Julie standing there, looking at me with a worried expression. It was all over her face and it made my heart ache.
"I'll give you a minute." Dad left.
I slowly walked to her and grabbed the folder from her hands. "Thanks." I said.
I didn't make eye contact until she gently grabs my arm and I look up to meet her eyes. "Skylar? What happened? Nicole told me that you were sick." Her eyes scanned my face.
"I.." I look around to make sure dad wasn't watching. "It's fine." I sigh. "It's nothing."
Her grip tightened. "Are you serious? This is not nothing." She touches my face. "What happened? Is your father taking care of you?"
I shrug. "He took me to the doctors. They gave me medicine for pain."
"That's all?"
I nod as I look down at the folder in my hand. I flipped through it to see how much work I had and it was a shitload.
"Skylar," I look up. She watches me for a moment. "we're talking when you come back to school."
I nod as I watch her for a moment, desperately wanting to kiss her. My heart ached for her lips on mine.
She must have saw the way I was looking at her as she smiled and looked around me real quick.
She leans over and gently kisses my cheek. She smiles once she pulls back. "I'll see you at school, Skylar."
When she left, my heart followed after her.
