"This is unacceptable, Skylar. Unacceptable!"
I was sitting on the couch watching my dad pace back and forth, yelling at me.
"I'm sorry." I said bluntly.
He stopped to look at me. "No, you're not. I understand you're eighteen Skylar, but you still live in this house, under my roof. I don't want you sneaking out or disobeying Ana!"
I saw her in the corner of my eye, loving this side show.
I roll my eyes then look back at my dad. "It won't happen again."
"Hell no it won't. You know why? You're grounded."
I shrug as it wasn't a big deal. I hardly ever go out anywhere.
"Cool. Can I leave?"
I stood up but he stopped me. "No." He grabbed my arm. "I'm tired of this attitude, Skylar. I'm tired of coming home and Ana telling me all these terrible things that aren't you. Why are you acting like this?"
"Maybe if you'd double check your wife," I hence the word. "then maybe you'd find out, huh? Stop taking her side!"
He pitched the bridge of his nose. "Skylar, this isn't about taking sides."
"It never is, is it?" I ask. "Just leave me alone."
I ran upstairs and slammed my door. I fell back on my bed and stared at the ceiling for a moment.
I quickly sat up and went over to my desk then pulled out the application.
I started filling it out.
-
I yawned as I sat at my desk with my head down.
I was tired and it was too early for this shit. I hardly slept last night because of my dad and Ana, and waking up this early was a stupid decision that any school system could have ever made.
I dozed off and the next thing that I heard was Miss Miller's voice.
"Skylar?"
I shot my head up and wiped my mouth as she, and the whole class, was staring at me.
"Uh, yes ma'am?"
She watched me. "Why are you sleeping in my class?"
I looked down then back at her. "Um, I'm sorry." I didn't know what else to say.
"Stay after class."
I mentally groan as I laid my head in the palm of my hand and tried my best to stay awake and listen to the lecture.
I usually get enough sleep at night, but the thought of Ana and my dad was making me toss and turn. I couldn't keep my eyes shut long enough.
After class was over, I stayed behind and waited until the last person left. I stood then walked over to her desk and stood in front of it.
"Skylar, this is the second time that I had you stay after class." She crossed her arms. "I don't want to make a habit out of it. It's making you look bad."
I sigh. "I'm sorry, again."
She watches me. "Not enough sleep last night?"
I shrug. "Something like that."
"School starts pretty early, and for an eighteen year old girl, you need your rest."
I smile as I wanted desperately to get out of here. "I know. It won't happen again."
"You have a test coming up. Study." She sternly says.
I nod. "Got it."
We said our goodbyes then I walked out. I placed my book in my locker then leaned against it and sighed.
