To say the principal was shocked was an understatement. She scanned my result for a minute and started flipping around the pages to make sure it was graded properly. I smirked at her reaction. No, I was not nervous about my scores. I knew I'd nailed it. So with a smug look plastered on my face, I asked her;
"Is everything alright ma'am?"
She cleared her throat and replied, "Uhmm... Yes dear. Everything is perfect. Your scores have just shocked me a little, I guess."
I smiled and replied, "In a good way, I hope."
"Of course dear. You have outperformed yourself I must say. I did not expect you to score 25 on 25 in Math. Also, there are hardly any errors in the essay you wrote. I must say I am impressed. You will be quite an achievement for our school if you continue working like this." She explained still recovering from the shock.
I could not control my excitement. I squealed. My grandpa coughed to grab my attention and asked me to be quiet. I smiled sheepishly and mumbled a quick apology to my new principal. Yes, MY NEW PRINCIPAL.
"Anyway, let us talk about the admission procedure and let me tell you about the rules and regulations you need to follow since I know there were not much rules in the school you previously attended."
She took out a piece of paper and started writing down the documents we needed to give her to complete the admission procedure. After she was done, she searched for a card and handed it to me and informed, "You can get your uniform from here. Give them your measurements and they will give it to you within a week. Until then you can wear your regular clothes. So do you any questions?"
"Uhmm.. Yes I do. I actually have all my documents with me right now so I can submit them today and start the procedure. Can I start coming to my classes from tomorrow? I am pretty sure I am way behind everyone and I don't want to miss anymore classes." I questioned eagerly.
She smiled at my eagerness and said, "You can go and submit your documents along with the fees to the receptionist once you are done filling the admission form and of course if you have everything ready I don't see an issue." She motioned me to go outside and asked me to start the procedure.
I immediately got up and happily made my way to the receptionist and asked the robot (I mean the receptionist) for the form. She handed me the form and went back to frowning. I ignored her sour attitude and started writing down whatever was asked. Once I was done, I handed her the form along with the necessary documents and the cheque. After she checked and verified the documents I went inside the principal's cabin.
"I have completed the admission procedure and the receptionist said I am okay to start from tomorrow. So am I good to go now?" I asked the principal occupying my previous seat.
"Yes, you are. But there is a thing I want you to promise me. Once you join this school, I will not let you change your school whenever and however you please. This is not a public school. I have my reputation to maintain and as you are joining the school in the middle of the school year I want you and your parents to sign a contract that says you will continue the remaining years of your high school here." She said strictly.
I thought about it for a moment. I had 4 years before I graduate and there was no way I was going to change my school now. My parents won't let me. I had promised them this was my last chance to run away from my problems so I did not see any issue with the contract she was making me sign. I looked over to my mom and asked for her permission. She scooted closer to me and said she did not see any problem here and they were ready to sign the contract. With a final nod of approval from my grandpa we signed the contract and were ready to leave.
"The school starts at 7:30 and ends at 12:55. The main door closes at 7:20 am so make sure you are here before that. I wish you all the best for your new journey and I will see you tomorrow morning. Be prepared." She instructed.
"Sure ma'am. I will not let you down. Thank you so much. I will see you tomorrow." I replied.
After my parents, aunt and grandpa waived their goodbye and thanked her, we made our way out. To say that I was excited was an understatement. I could not sit in one place the entire ride. I was jumping in my seats hugging my mom and my aunt. I was finally going to start a new chapter of my life. I was going to meet new people, make new friends and was finally away from the all the negative shit that my life had put me through. I could not believe how lucky I was. I silently thanked God for giving me a second chance to re-create my life. I know not everyone is as lucky as I am and I did not plan on taking it for granted. I was grateful for each and everything my family and the principal had done for me. It was my time to repay them and I knew I could do that by studying and getting good grades and not getting into any more troubles. I was ready for it.
As soon as we got home, I jumped out of the car and made my way to my room to pick an outfit for tomorrow. I wanted to dress to impress (in the most modest way possible, of course.) After looking through my wardrobe for 30 minutes and rejecting every single piece of clothing I owned, I gave up. Frustrated, I went to my mother's room to get her to help me.
"I literally cannot find anything to wear. Can you please take me shopping? We can go and give my measurements for the uniform as well while we are at it." I pleaded.
"Sure honey. But first let us go and grab lunch. We can leave right after." My mother suggested.
I nodded and went downstairs to feed my tummy. After we were done my mother and I went to the nearest shopping mall to find me clothes. I did not know I wanted to buy so shopping was quite exhausting. After 2 hours of endless walking and trying on more than 30 different outfits we headed out of the mall. I ended up buying 7 new t-shirts, a pair of black jeans and a black formal knee length skirt.
"Let's go and get done with the stupid measurements as quickly as we can." I told my mother.
After giving my measurements and a promise from the shopkeeper to give me my uniform in the next two days we were home. I was exhausted from all the walking and shopping so I headed straight to my room and went for a very well deserved nap.
My mother woke me up around 7 pm for dinner. After I had my dinner, I went to my grandpa's music room to thank him for all that he had done for me. After a quick thank you and a bunch of do's and don'ts from him I made my way to my room. I picked up my new backpack which I had bought earlier and started filling it with the things I needed for tomorrow. After deciding my outfit for tomorrow and laying them on the study table along with my backpack I went to sleep thinking about what tomorrow had in store for me.
