I did not need an alarm clock to wake me up. I barely slept last night. I was tossing and turning the entire time because the butterflies in my tummy would not let me sleep. I could barely control my excitement when I saw the clock hit 6 o clock. I jumped out of my bed and had a quick shower and dressed myself in the outfit I had picked yesterday; a black knee length skirt along with a white full sleeved shirt. After pairing the outfit with my black converse, I proceeded to tame my curly hair.
Let me tell you, there is no such thing as a 'good hair day' if you have curls on your head. Nope. So without wasting any more time, I quickly tied my hair in two pony tails. After applying eyeliner and a little bit of lip gloss, I made my way to my parents' room to see if they were ready.
15 minutes later, we were out of the house, making our way to the school. The nervous butterflies made its way in my tummy again and I was resisting the urge to puke. I turned the radio on to calm myself down. After 20 long minutes, I was finally standing with my principal, ready to make my entrance in my class.
She led me to a classroom filled with around 60 students. As soon as I entered the room, I could feel all of their eyes on me, I shifted on my feet, nervously. I did not like attention. I ignored them and started scanning the classroom. The first thing that caught my eyes was how girls and boys were seated together. We were not allowed to sit with guys in my previous school so it was quite astonishing. I let my eyes roam around the classroom a little longer, searching for a friendly face. One girl caught my eye. She was seated in the back of the room, in two high ponytails, just like me. She was smiling at me when I glanced in her direction and I let out a sigh of relief. Wow I guess I could have friend now.
The principal introduced me to the teacher. She was in her late 50s with gray hair and was around 5'6 with a scowl on her face. What was her problem? Was every staff in this school arrogant? I ignored her expressions and gave her a warm smile.
"Why don't you introduce yourself to the class?" The teacher said.
"Umm.. okay hi. I am Vrunda Modi. I have transferred here from Lakeview Public School. I love reading, writing and making new friends. So uhmm yeah, that's it, I guess." I introduced myself dumb-ly.
After my lame introduction I did not know what to know so I looked in my principal's direction hoping she would help me out. "Why don't you go and take a seat next to Veronica?" She said pointing at a girl who was seated in front of the girl, I first noticed.
I nodded and made my way towards Veronica. Let me describe Veronica for you. She seemed around 4'11, with a perfect figure, black hair which were neatly tied in two braids. Her skin was fair, like milk white fair. She had spectacles that covered her large brown eyes. She gave me a disgusted look as I went to sit by her. My smile shattered at her sour attitude and I could feel tears threatening to fall out of my eyes. I bit my bottom lip hard to control myself from crying. I shook her off and placed my backpack next to my leg and sat next to her.
The teacher started talking about History and hence I opened my book and started writing down whatever I could understand. After a while, I got bored and glanced behind me with a hope to talk to the girl that seemed friendly.
"Hi. I am Vrunda. What's your name?" I turned back and whispered to her.
"My name's Kiara. How do you like this school so far?" She asked me.
See. She was nice. She did not seem like the one to judge me. Thank god. Kiara seemed around 5'5 and was chubby. Her straight black hair were tied up in tow pony tails that came down to her shoulders. She had green and black spectacles that covered her innocent face. Let me tell you, one look at her and you could tell that she was an absolute sweet heart! Boy, she was adorable. I resisted my urge to pinch her cheeks because I did not want to freak her out already.
" Uhmm I don't know. I have not seen much right now. I have just seen the principal's office and the corridor I walked through. Why don't you show me around during lunch break and then I will let you know." I asked her hopefully.
Veronica seemed annoyed by our little conversation and rudely asked me to shut up. I mumbled a quick sorry and asked Kiara what was up with her. She shush-ed me and asked me to concentrate on what the teacher was speaking. I turned my head to the front and started paying attention to whatever the lady was ranting.
After 45 minutes of constant torture, the bell rang, signaling the end of the first period. I shut my book down with a large thud and stood up to go and sit next to Kiara.
"I have not left the class yet. This is not your public school. You need to learn to respect your teachers if you want to study in a Private School. Go and take your seat and behave yourself." The teacher lashed out at me.
I stood there like an idiot. I could see the entire class room trying to hold their laughter. I scoffed and said, "I am sorry. It won't happen again." And with that I took my seat next to Kiara.
She ignored my apology and went out the class room. I could not hold it any longer. I had to let my frustration out. I did not know what her problem was and I sure as hell was not going to let her treat me like this. So I faced Kiara and started, "What the fuck is here problem? I don't think I have done anything wrong to her. Why does she not like me? What a bitch man!" I exclaimed.
Kiara laughed at my reaction and said, "She behaves like this with everyone. If you want to survive, you gotta ignore her. We do not let her sour attitude bother us. Relax a little, girl!"
I smiled at her and asked her what class did we have next? Math. I cheered mentally. I was really good at Math and so I knew I was going to enjoy my next lecture. The Math teacher seemed nice. He was a tall bald man, in his early 40s, I suppose. He had a friendly smile on his face when he saw a new face (i.e. me) in the class.
"What is your name new girl? I was the one who graded your Math paper and I was impressed seeing how you scored a 100% on the test. So tell me what have you learnt so far in Math?" He questioned.
I could feel my confidence shoot up again. I smirked at Veronica who looked at me with her mouth open. I bet she did not expect me to score a 100%. Huh. Judged me a too quickly, bitch? I thought.
Ignoring her, I looked up at my sir and replied, "I love Math so I guess it helped me score nicely in the exam. I have learnt about Pythagoras Theorem, how to calculate the surface, circumference, radius and height of different objects. I have learnt a bit of Trigonometry as well."
"You already know majority of what we have covered till now, so it won't be a problem. But just in case if you get stuck anywhere, you can always ask me or Veronica- the girl in front of you." He informed.
I scowled mentally at Veronica's name. I could now understand why she had a stick up her ass. She was a nerd and was the one who was liked by all the teachers. "Bring it on nerd. Let's see who is everyone's favorite in a month." I challenged her mentally.
After 4 long hours, lunch break was finally here. I packed my books in my bag and took out the sandwich which my mom had packed for me. As soon as I stood up, four boys came up to me with an evil smirk on their face. I gulped nervously and asked them, "What do you need?"
