Hiccup
"Must we go?" Astrid asked, having her bags wrapped around her arms, "You know how much I hate having to wear silk dresses as part of that 'chieftess' courtesy".

Hiccup could only giggle at her complains, "I for one think you look ravishing in those silk dresses, m'lady, and you know how important these yearly visits are. If we don't visit the other islands our alliance with the neighboring lands will go down much faster than Fishlegs rolling down the hills".

"I know, I know. Sorry, I know we'll pull through. Just as long as I don't have to quit my axe-throwing with the other maidens of the island, I'll be alright".

"Plus, Fishlegs and Heather are coming with us, we won't be all lonely".

Hiccup held out his hand as Astrid climbed on to the ship, where he couldn't help but stare at her gorgeous appearance. Astrid's blonde locks were wrapped in a tight, but elegant, crown braid, the fair skin on her shoulders exposed as she wore a cerulean off shoulder silk dress, with a silver lace tied at the back. Though certain that Astrid would hate it, Hiccup noticed how her cheeks and lips were pinker than usual, perhaps with the help of squashed wild berries, giving her a vibrant and peachy look.

He couldn't help but whisper under his breath, "that's m'lady".

Astrid
There was an odd and eerie feeling which Astrid felt once they arrived on the harbor. She wasn't expecting the warm comforting feeling that was on Berk, but she expected something similar of it. Hiccup offered his hand to help her step off the ship. Fishlegs and Heather followed.

"Welcome, to the Grylands, Haddocks! It's my honor to greet you after, what I suppose, a quite long journey across the archipelago! Nothing better than to see the face of an ally, ain't that right, chief?" The man greeted.

An old friend of Berk's former chief, Stoick, Halstein Gryland too, was a magnificent chief, and a great ally to Berk. Astrid recalled running through the ethereal meadows of the Gryland as a young child upon their yearly visitations.

"Ah, Halstein. It's been far too long. I'm glad we get to catch up" Hiccup grinned.

Despite the friendly greetings from Halstein, Astrid still felt unease.

"I see you've made a fine chief. Stoic would be so proud of you, las. I hope you don't mind, Hiccup, but I have some daily errands to run, but I do hope you don't hesitate to explore the island. I hear the markets are selling fresh fruit today, perhaps it's something worth checking out. I will meet you both at the dinner feast, it's been a pleasure Chief and Your Grace".

Astrid smiled as she watched Halstein walk away.

"Wasn't so bad, right, m'lady?" Hiccup asked, with his charming tone as he extended his arm for her.

She locked arms with his. "I suppose not, but I do think we're gonna get bored waiting for the dinner feast. I say we go on a little adventure in the market".

Astrid let out a small giggle as Hiccup too trotted with her down the narrow path towards the market. It felt as if they were teenagers again, exploring the streets of Berk together.

The market was a crowded area. Filled with the right amount of  warmth and greed, the perfect balance between good and bad would always be found in the market. Where sellers would sell their goods, where thieves would steal their catches.

Hiccup was particularly interested with a certain stall located west of Gryland's market after its salesman had advertised its products in such a boisterous tone. "Good morning, sir"
Hiccup greeted.

The seller, who was cloaked in black linen and had writhing gray hair, raised suspicion in Astrid. The way his long fingernails clasped the wooden board of his stall, the strange and distant look in his eyes, almost felt as if he had a deceitful act hidden behind his cloak.

"Please to meet you, Chief Haddock" He greeted strangely. "May I recommend this ale? It's imported from the fresh grounds across the archipelago, Your Grace. A beer for nobles, it gives quite the taste" The seller muttered.

"Of course, sir. The ale looks pleasurable" Hiccup grinned.

Astrid had an odd feeling. "Wait, Hiccup" She muttered. The man stared at her, and so did the other buyers and sellers of the market, anticipating if the Chief and Chieftess would decline a drink offered by the ally.

Not wanting to cause a scene, she spoke, "May I have a sip first? I've been feeling a great thirst since we've arrived here. You know, with the long journey and all".

"Whatever suits you, babe" Hiccup nodded.

Astrid gazed at the odd man, "Would that be alright for you, good sir?".

She noticed the man at unease. He winced slightly, Astrid noting how the man began to let out beads of sweat as Astrid picked up the glass of ale.

I hope this wasn't a mistake, Astrid thought.

She held the drink to her lips and drank.

Hiccup
Hiccup wanted to take a sip of the ale, but Astrid made sure that the glass was finished before Hiccup could even try a drop.

"Jee, Astrid, didn't know you were that thirsty".  He joked.

Yet, Astrid didn't respond. She had a distant look in her eyes as she gazed at the people of the market, then back at Hiccup. When her eyes met his, he knew something was wrong.

"Astrid? You okay?" Hiccup whispered gently.

Astrid's eyes rolled back before she collapsed on the cold stone road. As she hit the solid ground, she was sent into a coughing fit, as if she was gasping for air.

"You fools, help the chieftess!" Heather exclaimed.
People began to rush towards the scene, now crowding Hiccup and Astrid.

Hiccup bent down quickly and turned Astrid, her nose now trickling blood. She began clawing at her throat as an attempt to get air. Hiccup, now filled with concern, could feel the tears forming in his eyes. "Astrid, Astrid! H-how do I fix this? I don't know how to help her, someone please, I-I can't. No, Astrid, somebody, please!" His voice now trembling.

Astrid laid still on the floor, barely breathing, with her eyes shot open and mouth trembling, Hiccup tried holding her much more tightly every time she shivered, hoping it would give her even the slightest comfort in this agony.

Fishlegs ran to the scene, examining the cup of ale Astrid had just drank. The man who had sold the ale was no where to be found, vanished in the suffocating crowd. Hiccup looked to his friend, desperately, wondering of a way to reverse the damage brought upon Astrid.

Fishlegs stared at Hiccup with dull eyes, "This, this is poison, Hiccup. I think this was an assassination attempt".

A/N: DUN DUN DUN!!! I hope you guys enjoyed this as I certainly did enjoy writing it? Who do you think intended to poison Hiccup before Astrid stopped him, well, that's up to you. Don't know if you could tell, but the one-shot was heavily inspired by Game of Thrones as I've been watching it a lot lately, it's great, hehe. Also, don't forget to request writing prompts, thanks!
