Born Dauntless

First Jumper!

I wake up to Uriah shaking me.

"Wake up sleepy head!" He yells in my ear.

"Ow!" I yell.

Uriah then runs out of my room. I get up and get dressed into my usual outfit that consists of a dark red shirt and high waisted black shorts with my combat boots. I put my hair in a low ponytail, brush my teeth and run out the door to the cafeteria. I get to the cafeteria and grab a muffin.

I go and sit down by my brother Uriah and my best friends Lynn and Marlene. My older brother Zeke and my other best friend Shauna are a year older than us so they are at the choosing ceremony. I know that they will choose Dauntless and stay here but I still am a bit nervous.

"Don't worry Trissy. They're coming back." Uriah says to me.

I just remain quiet, as do the rest of the cafeteria.

The choosing ceremony is the only day that this place is quiet. Everyone is nervous to see if their friends and family will come back.

"They're here!" Max, one of our leaders yells.

Some of the adults go to their jobs and Amar and the other trainers go to the net.

"Come on!" Lynn whispers. "Let's go see the initiates."

She then stands up and goes out of the cafeteria and we follow. Once we are out we run to the net making sure to stay quiet.

When we get there we hide behind a box and wait for the first one to jump.

"I bet it's Zeke." Uriah says. "He's always wanted that star moment and make the perfect first jump."

I giggle silently and a scream appears with a black blur. They hit the net on their stomach and bounce a few times. We laugh quietly and Amar goes to help the person out, which turns out to be Zeke.

"Tough fall Zeke?" Amar asks.

"Yeah I tripped and fell while I was getting on the wall."

We laugh again.

"I guess he didn't get that perfect jump that everyone would talk about." Marlene says.
