A week had passed since that incident. (Name) finally came to the hospital for her first appointment with her doctor.
This past week, Todoroki always texted her and asked how she was doing. Well, it wasn't frequent since he always got work to do, but when he had the time, he'd ask about her.
Though not everything, (name) told the neurosurgeon the symptoms she was having.
Every morning, she would wake up with severe headache, and mostly ended up vomiting. She also lost her balance at times, causing her to fall a lot.
She told Todoroki about that, and he said that so far, the symptoms she was having were rather normal. Therefore, there's nothing to worry about because he could still monitor the growth. However, he couldn't help but to worry about her whenever she told him her condition. Most of the time, (name) had to tell him she's alright.
Or so she thought.
'Knock, knock.'
(Name) knocked on the door into his office.
"Come in."
Todoroki's voice could be heard from inside.
Slowly, (name) turned the knob and peeked into the room.
"S-sorry for disturbing..."
The surgeon looked up and smiled when he saw her.
It had been a week since they last met each other, so seeing her face made him slightly happy.
"You're not disturbing, (name)-san. Please, come on in."
(Name) startled a little when she heard him muttered her name.
'He put back the '-san'...'
Somehow, it disturbed her.
Ignoring the feelings, she walked into the room and took a seat in front of her doctor.
Todoroki stopped writing his report and gave his full attention towards her.
"So how are you feeling today?"
He asked, sounding a little concerned about her.
"Did you vomit this morning as well?"
(Name) thought for a while about the answer. Should she tell the truth?
"Um... Well... I guess so."
"So you did."
Todoroki cut her stuttering.
"Y-yeah..."
Listening to her answer, Todoroki's brows twitched a little as he stared at her. It made him worried. However, he still needed to do his job.
Todoroki reached for a file that was on a shelf behind him. Then, he opened it in front of her.
"This is the report of your current condition. Are you ready to hear it?"
His question caused her to flinch a little.
She was scared, but no matter what, she must know.
Therefore, (name) took a deep, deep breath and looked at the doctor in front of her with determination in her eyes.
"I'm ready."
She said.
"Very well then. Here's the image of your brain from the MRI you did last time."
He put up the image.
"As you can see, there is something foreign inside the frontal lobe of your Cerebrum, mainly at the right side of your brain. We have identified it as Astrocytoma, a type of glioma that developed from astrocytes. I did take note at all your symptoms and tried to pair it with any stages of Astrocytoma. As in your case, it's a low-grade Astrocytoma, a grade II tumor."
(Name) just kept listening attentively as Todoroki continued.
"A low-grade astrocytoma is a rather passive tumor. It grows slowly, and rarely spreads to other part of your brain. Therefore, it is not hard to control its growth. As for now, it is located at the frontal lobe of your brain, where it controls your thinking, memory, behavior and also your movement. Therefore, it is unavoidable if you frequently forgot something or having difficulties in moving. It's because your brain is affected by its presence. The headaches and vomiting are also effects from this, though I'd rather say your symptoms are quite severe."
(Name) clenched her fist on her laps.
It was tiring to throw up every time you woke up in the morning. But if it was unavoidable, then what could she do?
"So..."
She started to speak.
"Is this tumor dangerous...?"
She naively asked that question out of concern. She was slightly afraid, considering that her future was at stake.
"There are no tumors that are not dangerous, (name)-san."
The answer caused (name)'s heart to shatter.
"However, we can differentiate them whether they are treatable or not."
Todoroki's sentence lifted up (name)'s head.
What was he talking about...?
"What I'm trying to say is that, your tumor is treatable, (name)-san."
Like he could read her mind, Todoroki told her even when she didn't ask. And of course, it made her so relieved that she almost cried.
The corner of her eyes started to tear up.
"...Really...?"
Todoroki just nodded, assuring her that he's telling the truth.
"Doctor Aizawa and I had decided to perform a surgery on you. The date is three weeks from now. We wanted to do it earlier, but you have to go through a few tests before getting into the surgery room. I don't want to push you too much, that's why. Are you okay with that?"
(Name) had a deep thought for a while.
Was she okay with that...?
Even she wasn't sure.
Hearing the word 'surgery' had made her nervous. All sorts of things came rushing into her mind.
She kept her head low, only her eyes looking at Todoroki that was anticipating an answer from her. She still needed confirmation.
"Will it be okay...?"
He then smiled.
"It will. I am going to lead the surgery, so you don't have to worry. I'll keep you save."
The last sentence had lifted all the burden and worries in her heart. It was magical how a mere sentence can make her feel so.
A little relieved, (name) finally formed a smile on her lips.
She's confident now.
"Alright then. I'll leave myself under your care, doctor."
