Nala just came back from class when she saw Aunt Josie preparing a cup of tea to go, but no one is around.
"Are you heading out, Aunt Josie?" she inquired.
"Oh no dear. This is for Reiji. He called and he said he wants a cup of oolong tea that he will pick it up at 3pm. It's almost three so I decided to make it already," Aunt Josie replied.
"Oh. Okay," she nodded. "I'll just change clothes, finish some homework then I'll help."
It was fifteen minutes past three when she got down to help in the café. She noticed that Reiji's order is still on the counter.
"He hasn't dropped by yet. I'm worried," Aunt Josie said after noticing Nala staring at the cup. "Can you just deliver it to him, dear? He's probably at the laboratory."
"Is that so? Okay, but I'll reheat it a little bit." She said as she took the cup and reheated its content.
"I'll get going Aunt Josie." She waved goodbye to the sweet owner.
As she approached the lab, she noticed that smoke was coming out of it.
"Fire?!" She gasped and ran towards the room, grabbing the fire extinguisher near the door.
"Reiji-senpai? Are you there?" She asked worriedly. "Reiji-senpai?"
She looked around but there was no fire anywhere. There was also no sign of Reiji-senpai. She decided to look around to find him. She put the fire extinguisher down and walked around. The Science laboratory is quite big, consisting of two big halls and four smaller rooms.
She went to where the smoke was coming from. When she reached opened the door to one of the smaller rooms, she saw Reiji-senpai passed out on the floor.
"Reiji-senpai?!" She rushed towards him. He was still breathing, but he was unconscious. She tried to wake him up, but he doesn't respond.
She looked around to see a bucketful of dry ice on the counter. She noticed that the room was enclosed. She thought that Reiji-senpai probably inhaled some dry ice fume which caused him to pass out. She immediately opened the windows for better ventilation, and carried the bucket of dry ice away from Reiji-senpai.
Once that is done, she rushed towards Reiji's side. She tried to wake him up again. He stirred up a little but he looked really weak. Not knowing what to do next, Nala stood up to rush to the infirmary, but then Reiji held her wrist lightly.
"Don't leave," he said weakly.
"Senpai, you're awake! Finally!" Nala exclaimed. "Are you okay? I mean ... You're obviously not, but ... I should call Haruka-sensei."
"I ... I'm fine." Reiji coughed. "Don't leave."
"But what should I do? Can you get up?" She asked.
Reiji shook his head, saying no. He looked towards the window to see that it's opened. He smiled weakly and said, "I'll be okay now. I'm glad that you know what to do." Pointing towards the window. "Just stay here with me for a while. I'll be okay."
Nala nodded and sat beside Reiji. She was shocked when he moved to lie his down on her lap.
"I ... I hope that you don't mind," he said.
Flustered, Nala just nodded. She was so embarrassed knowing that she's red as a beet. She just wouldn't complain since he was so weak.
After a while, Reiji felt a little better, enough to get back up on his feet again. Nala assisted him, and they went to Haruka-sensei who commended Nala for saving Reiji. He made sure that Reiji is okay before letting them leave the infirmary.
Nala walked with Reiji to his dorm building.
"I can't come inside. Will you be fine going to your room or should I ask someone for help?" she asked.
'I'll be fine. Thanks a lot Nala. I owe you my life, literally."
"I just did the right thing to do." She smiled at him before saying goodbye.
Reiji refused to go inside the building without seeing Nala on her way. As Nala disappeared from the area, Reiji fell down to his knees, palms on his face. He was so embarrassed and ecstatic at the same time. He wanted to drop by the café to see Nala, but instead she saved him from a dangerous situation and stayed with him the whole time. He felt surreal.
As for Nala, she had to explain everything to a worried old lady back in the café. She was just supposed to deliver a drink, but she ended up saving someone's life. The drink wasn't drank by Reiji-senpai, but the café delivery service was still a success.
Who would have thought that a simple service can save a life?
