ANGEL

Both Angel and Slaine ceased their conversation for a few minutes. Unfortunately, the heaviness lingering in the room made it difficult for them to continue the discussion. Finally, Angel excused herself and her guest, stating they had a long day ahead and were pretty worn out.

He scheduled to meet with her at a later date to figure out the best way to proceed.

As the couple was preparing to leave the office, Slaine grabbed her hand.

"Angel, please at least discuss this with a detective. If there is a complaint on record, that will force the police to follow-up should something go wrong?" He pleaded with her as he squeezed her hand and insisted she focus on her safety.

"I'll consider it. But, please go ahead and prepare for negotiations. I want this to be over. If they have any sense at all, they will take the money and walk away." She explained once more and hugged her friend on the way out the door.

COLE

"Baby, I let you do your thing back there in that meeting, but I have to agree with that dipshit. Even though I didn't appreciate the way he gawked at me or the little jabs taken at my expense, he spoke the truth. They will never let this go. We killed some of their men. If sensible people were running things, they might take the meeting and come to a truce. The problem is that dumb ass, Bruce." Cole gave her his honest opinion.

"What should we do?" Angel asked, not sure of anything anymore.

"Bruce executed an unsanctioned hit on me. He will never allow information that he was the one who tried to kill me to get back to the Brothers. To do that would mean death to him and those who were in on it. I'm sure he is lying his ass off as we speak about how I died and what happened to the guys who died when they attacked us back in Arkansas. He would never tell them that a woman--let alone a black woman--got the better of them." Cole continued to point out the elements of her plan he believed were destined to fail.

After what seemed like a long and irritating encounter with her former employer, Cole was glad to be alone with Angel finally. From the moment they walked in that polished building full of stuffed shirts, he wanted nothing more than to turn around and leave. He was out of his element, and the place was too drab.

When they reached the asshole's office, all he wanted to do was kill the dude.

First, the jackass damn near undressed his woman with his eyes. Then he took every opportunity to make Cole look like some low-life pile of shit. If he had to spend another minute with that nut-sack, he was sure he would break the promise he made to his baby before they entered the building.

Once they made it back down to the building entrance, Cole kissed Angel on the forehead and then gently on the lips to assure her that everything would be fine. They stood in the section where one valet was waiting as the other raced over to the designated area to retrieve their vehicle.

Cole opened the passenger door for Angel, allowing her to take the front passenger seat. Then, he closed the door and walked around to the driver's side to hop in the pickup truck. Once he was seated next to her, Cole locked the door and leaned in for one more chance to taste her lips before they headed out of the parking lot into some pretty nasty rush hour traffic.

His massive hand turned her to face him and washed away the stress of the day as he spent some time exploring her luscious mouth as his other hand lightly massaged her rear as he pulled her closer. Cole didn't give a damn if they were in a public place. He needed to feel her next to him.
