BRUCE
"What the fuck is going on? I had that bitch in my hands, and just like that... out of the blue, the police showed up. How the hell did they find us when this whole operation has been so low-key, even the other leaders of the Brotherhood can't track us?" Bruce was slowly descending into madness as a litany of questions flooded his mind at the same time.
The offer from his whore to settle the score between Cole and his clan was genius. They came up with a foolproof solution that might have allowed the couple to change the course of their lives. Had he and his men not snatched her ass out of the hospital, his enemy would have gotten away.
Cole killed his men. Even though he didn't pull the trigger himself, it was ultimately that treacherous motherfucker's fault his boys got killed.
Bruce reasoned in his mind that every problem he ever suffered began and ended with Cole. As a result, hate festered inside him until it crippled his ability to reason and process sound decisions.
He sat in a basement where he and one of his drug business connections worked out from time to time, meandering over potential steps to strike at Cole once again. To kill that no-good sack of shit was his mission in life. His dedication aimed at destroying his enemy's life was no minor fascination. Bruce decided he would do whatever was necessary to finish what he started.
A piece of paper lay on the table folded and crimped around the edges with age, wear and tear. No matter how hard the man struggled to keep his eyes off of the unbridled rage in his life, his eyes always managed to find themselves on the one thing that made him hate Cole more than anything else in the world.
Cole wasn't shit in his eyes. The man everyone treated like a god was a mere mortal. He wasn't any better than Bruce. His so-called friend was no superhero. Cole was a man, not a mythical being. His eyes wandered back to it. It was his lifelong purpose to rip out that bastard's heart and send him back to hell. His jealousy of Cole and how the members felt about him were on display for everyone to see.
The members knew Cole was brutal but fair. If a member fucked up, he might get a severe ass-kicking. Concerning major infractions, he behaved like a real leader by taking the matter to the council where they would hear the offense, listen to the facts surrounding it, weigh it against their ordinances and by-laws, and if guilty, make the offender pay for their dereliction. The individual would either pay the penalty. In addition, their title or property might get confiscated. Particularly egregious offenses resulted in the member receiving a full ex-communication as well as being removed from the Brotherhood's Family Roster.
The Brotherhood operated like an independent governing body within the countries where they held charters. No one person was permitted to take another member's life without receiving the official vote to carry out something so final. Leaders voted on matters concerning memberships. Once a person received a vote ousting them, there was no going back. These decisions never fell into the hands of one person.
When Bruce decided to annihilate his enemy secretly, he made a move that he presumed would eventually end him. He understood the repercussions of moving against Cole, but he figured that his secret would never see the light of day with the right amount of money and the right group of people.
Their second move to complete what he started after his first betrayal of Cole left Bruce with unchecked wealth and power. He was determined to prove that he could do a better job than his predecessor. Unfortunately, after a series of bad investments and foolish spending, the only thing Bruce proved was that he was ill-equipped to lead.
