CHAPTER SIXTEEN | His Pledge

A FREEZING COLD THING pressed on my temple as I lay there on their greyish modular couch, two mustard coloured bolsters pushed under my knees and neck while the throw cushions were stuffed beneath my head that had begun to pound like a wild animal on loose. I let out a groan as I stretched out my left leg to its limit.  There was a satisfying crack and I finally opened my eyes to see none other then those daunting angular eyes that belonged to Debby.

A smile lit up her eyes on seeing me alive. "How are you feeling?" She asked softly, combing her fingers through my hair. I relaxed under her touch, remembering how often my own mom would touch my hair and calm me down like this. An ache flared up in my chest as I fought my mind because of these pesky flashbacks regarding  my parents and their unconditional love for me. Heedless of their words, I sat up straight on the couch.

I touched my face and winced when I felt the warmth of those injuries still present on my face. "My face--"

"We couldn't take you to the hospital. All of this scared us and seeing you like this terrified us. We all freaked out because everyone of us deemed you as dead but here you are. Alive and same as you were before the attack."

She awkwardly patted my shoulders and then tucked a spare strand of hair behind her ears. I could only raise my eyebrows. Placing a red heart shaped cushion on my lap, I allowed my arms to go around it waiting for her to explain me more about my situation. When she didn't say anything else, I licked my lower lip. "All of this scared you?" This was oddly humorous. A grin was plastered on my face as I tried to look into her eyes but it was kind of intimidating because she was dangerous too.

This girl was probably taught to fight and kill and yet here she was admitting to me that all of this was terrifying for her.

"I-I'm kind of...hungry." I revealed bashfully, rubbing on the back of my head like the wimp I was. Through the big black doors, Delly and Cora entered the premises of the huge living room. Cora had huge Manila coloured grocery bags, the car keys swinging off her thumb while Dellie had three classics stacked into her chest. She was humming a tune when she noticed me. Her elbows nudged Cora and they stopped to gaze at me.

Crimson coloured my face and I looked down into my lap. Debby ruffled up my waves and I furiously began to blush under their intense stares.

"He says he's hungry," Debby acceded to everyone. "Can you call down Holly? Tell her there's a guest that requires her attention and inform her it's not Anton this time. Its Sebastion."

My ears perked up at this. Anton's a guy. I thought I was the only guy involved with the Underworld right now. Pursing my lips, I could sense my heart dropping in my chest. Who could be Anton and does Anton receives the same attention from girls as me?

Cora nodded briefly before going to the open kitchen. Dellie came to settle next to me, propping up some classic on her lap with a purple highlighter in her hands. I pulled my knees to myself, awkwardly trying to shake off my subconscious feelings. Whenever I struggled to shift my facial muscles, I would get reminded of how mercilessly I was beaten by Alec and his goon pals.
