CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR | Sherrif's Office
"SHE'S COLD, TESSA." I helped Savannah onto the seat in front of the desk that belonged to the Sherrif. Tessa, the deputy, let her hair down and leaned against the wall near the fireplace. Her office was smaller and much more crowded then the main office outside this room.
The deputy pushed herself from the wall and nodded. Her foot steps took her to the nearest filing cabinet but instead of files being arranged there, I spotted a threadbare gray blanket. Stretching her fingers across the blanket, she pulled it out and rolled it into a spherical shape before tossing it at me.
I caught it in mid air.
"It came in handy when he used to accidentally lock me inside my own office," the deputy sighed, her tone tired and forgiving for the man outside. Flattening the blanket against my knees, I gently wrapped the thin piece of cloth around Savannah. Fatigue had taken over her entirely. Her eyes were barely opened. Maybe, she wanted to sleep.
"Just don't work for him anymore," I suggested while dragging the seat closer to Savannah's seat. After doing that, I piled my form on the same seat next to her. Everything seemed fuzzier then it actually was or was it just fatigue taking over me too?
With cautious movements, I extended my fingers under her face and steadily moved her head causing her head to fall onto my shoulders. The moment her head hit my shoulder, she closed her eyes.
"He was the only one willing to give me a job after-"
I yawned.
"Nevermind, you must have been tired. Just sleep it out, Sebastion." An amused smile was on her face. I nodded sleepily before letting my head rest on top of Savannah's head. It was not very comfortable but I just wanted to...sleep.
I knew she would kill me the moment she gained consciousness but I just wanted to rest my eyes. That's it.*
Night had already fallen and the office seemed darker then usual when Tessa Dupont called Mr. and Mrs. Meyers to tell them that their son has been found. The moon was in its full display when the Meyers saw Savannah with their son and decided to bring her home too. It was difficult to move two sleeping adolescent teenagers but they managed that all on their own. They were the Meyers after all.
