**** JESSE POV ****
My morning starts off with sharp pains as I accidentally roll onto my back, my shoulder blades taking most of the pain. I wince as I roll over to my stomach to lesser the pain, but it isn't that much better either. I force myself to sit up, immediately reaching for the ibuprofen bottle next to my bed, swallowing three pills to start the day.
I look down to my stomach, seeing most of the bruising is gone, but some spots remain on the front and side of my ribs. These bruises have got to go fast, I won't be able to hide them much longer from Chayni. I tried to hide my black eye from her with the use of my mom's makeup, but it didn't take my smart girlfriend very long to figure it out.
The flash of Chayni's front camera goes off as she takes a Snapchat of us just for fun. I don't pay much attention to it as I watch "Forensic Files" on her TV. I feel her head move against the space between my shoulder and arm, "Jesse, what is this?" She asks worriedly.
I look down at the picture, seeing right above her finger is a hint of a purple blur on my face. "Nothing, it's probably just from the flash." I say coolly, looking back at the TV.
In less than a second, I see Chayni's thumb zip across my vision and soon wiping the area of my black eye. "Ow!" I hiss in pain from the pressure she put on it. Did she really just lick her thumb and wipe it on my face?
"Jesse is that a black eye?" She asks concerned. Damn it.
"It's nothing, Chayns." I shrug her off.
But then she pushes herself up, using her left arm to balance her on the bed. "C'mon Jesse we just fixed what happened this weekend.." She says, bringing up our make-up that only happened an hour ago.
Chayni avoided me during the whole day at school so I sucked up my pride to come over to her house to apologize for the shitty attitude I gave her after what happened at my house over the weekend. I knew I couldn't tell her the real truth about what happened on Saturday, but I just needed to apologize for the anger I took out on her. Long story short, I said 'sorry' about a million times and promised her I'd never get mad again like that and she, being the best human alive, accepted it. But now here we are, caught in between another lie from me.
"When my hand let loose from the riggin, my face came down hard on the horse's head." I act out a sigh, pretending like I actually got on a bronc on Saturday night.
"Jesus Jesse, you don't have a concussion do you?" She asks, looking around my head.
"Fortunately no." I say and then I see her physically relax, letting out a big sigh of relief.
"You scared me there for a second." She says putting her hand on her chest. "Why did you feel like you had to hide that from me?" She asks, putting her hand on mine.
I look down at the contact, reminding me how much our relationship means to me. "I just didn't want you to worry, baby."
She lifts my hand gently over her shoulder as she lays back next to me, still holding my hand that lays over her shoulder. "Jesse I always worry about you when you get on a bronc... You 'are' a roughy anyways." She says, lightening the moment.
I smile knowing that she isn't worried anymore, "90 or nothin'."
Knowing that my mom is in the kitchen making breakfast for us, I quickly my way into her bathroom to steal more of her makeup. When I come into their room, I realize my father is still in bed, passed out from another drunken night. What a piece of garbage that man is. Shaking my head, I head into the bathroom quickly dabbing my finger into the foundation, hiding the blue and green bruise around my eye. I also put it on the fresh cut on the right side of my forehead from last night, it stings like a bitch but I tolerate it.

Roman d'amourCowgirl Oxford defines cowgirl as "a woman who herds and tends cattle, performing much of her work on horseback". Codi Dalton and Chayni Anderson would agree to this definition, but will argue that it is missing a few pieces to it. Cowgirls aren't...
