Jesse
I have never bit my tongue so hard before this very moment as I watched Charlie walk away from me after our talk. I wanted to tell him to shove everything in the dictionary up his ass and go to hell, but in the end, he's the one who pays my bills.
What was our "talk" about?
How he's forcing me to stay and spray fields for three hours, when I'm already supposed to be on the road to go see my girl. I had already discussed my weekend plans with him two weeks prior and now he changes his mind about what needed to be done. To say I'm beyond pissed, is an understatement. He's taking away my Chayni time.
I could just sit around and pout about it, but the sooner I'm done, the sooner I get to see her. So it's time to cowboy up and get to work.
Despite our argument earlier, Charlie waves farewell as I pass the house on way down the road. I didn't care about how fast I was driving, I couldn't wait to get the heck out of this place for a couple days. Don't get me wrong, I'm extremely lucky and fortunate to be able to work here with free room and board and Charlie's, for the most part, is a great and fair boss. But, nothing compares to anywhere else with Chayni.
I also couldn't wait to watch the mounted shooting for some live entertainment. It's not the same through a computer screen. But first I have to make the 6 hour drive there..
I pull up to the arena grounds, surprised by the shit load of pickup and trailers. I didn't realize how big this competition was and I suddenly curse myself as I realize I should have brought her flowers to wish her good luck. I try to find a good parking spot near her rig and trailer, looking at the clock on my radio realizing she'll already be warming up by now. Damn it. Maybe I can catch her before she starts.
As I start walking over to the stands I hear my name being called, "Jesse!" I look over to see Codi on her horse with Weston right beside her as always. "Hey guys," I call back as I walk towards them, "Chayn mentioned you'd be competing today, that's awesome,"
"Sorry to say this pard, but my girl's gonna kick your girl's ass,"
Codi rolls her eyes at him, "He's exaggerating, we all know Chayni has been workin her tail off. She's real excited about today,"
"I can't wait to see her," I smile,
"Aww," Codi smiles, "well c'mon she's the second one and they already played the National Anthem."
"Yee haw," Weston says making us laugh.
Thankfully Weston and I make it to the bleachers before the first rider comes out, joining Chayni's family, "Jesse!" Jaime exclaims as she wraps me in a bone crushing hug, "How are you?"
"Can't complain, just sorry I couldn't make it earlier." I say as I move on to shake Luke's hand, which is always bone-crushing.
"She understands kiddo, she'll just be happy that you're here." She says warmly before we all pay attention to the blank shots being fired.
A few minutes later the announcer comes back on, "UW's own freshman on the Ranch Horse team, Chayni Anderson and her horse Willie! Get it cowgirl!"
I stand to my feet as I finally see my girlfriend enter the area, "Let's go baby!!" She lopes Willie into a few circles before starting the course. As always she has a steady shooting arm as she leads Willie with the other arm as she follows the course correctly. As soon as the clears the second barrel, I know she has it on lockdown so I stand up again and cheer loudly for her, as well as her family. With her time I know she'll be taking home the check, well if Codi doesn't beat it of course.
Knowing she has a while before her second run, I make my way down to where the riders wait. Spotting her instantly, I sneak up behind her as she loosens the cinch. I grab her waist and pull her into me, "Here's my smokeshow of a girlfriend," I say as I kiss her cheek.

Storie d'amoreCowgirl Oxford defines cowgirl as "a woman who herds and tends cattle, performing much of her work on horseback". Codi Dalton and Chayni Anderson would agree to this definition, but will argue that it is missing a few pieces to it. Cowgirls aren't...
