Clove’s POV
“You shouldn’t have done that you know.” I told Cato as he began to smile at me widely. “It’s a girl thing.”
“Psh, your excuses are out of reach for me,” he laughed, “You’re fight-deprived. Don’t you fight?”
“This isn’t the 74th Hunger Games that our parents joined into.” I said. “This is our own reality.”
“’Our?’” He smirked. “Well that escalated quickly.”
“Don’t expect too much.” I said. “You’re so weird up until now.”
“Nah, I’ve changed.” He winked at I rolled my eyes at him furiously.
As soon as the bell rang, both of us looked at each other, and I just realized that Cato and I are classmates so talking to him would be inevitable. If I excuse myself by going to the locker, I would probably be late for our next class. I guess I had no other choice but to talk to this horrible guy. And this horrible guy is my classmate ever since, I’m used to his horrible attitude anyway. Everything is horrible about him, his blonde hair, his perfectly teeth and its molars are formed just right, his slightly brown eyes sparkling with mischief at all times, and those parts of him never changed, it never had. That’s why he is one of the memories I am desperately trying to forget.
“It’s weird, you know?” He suddenly said.
“What’s weird?” I replied questioningly.
“We don’t have other subjects.” He said. “It’s all about The Hunger Games.”
“More like history.” I said.
“And Haymitch had been our teacher for five years in this school.” He laughed. “You missed a lot of stuff here when you transferred.”
“I would rather miss a lot of stuff than to be with you here.” I said honestly.
“I was a little offended by that, but I’ll let it go this time.” He said, faking his pain by grasping his heart.
When we entered the classroom, our classmates began to look at both of us, and then there were sudden mischief painted on their facial expressions.
“Well, I presume everything’s escalating quickly.” The guy beside Cato’s seat laughed, and I believe it’s Marvel.
“Shut up Marvel.” Cato silenced Marvel icily.
“So is it really real?” Marvel teased him. “You wouldn’t react that much if you’re not denying it.”
“BOOM!” Thresh exclaimed.
“BOOM WHAT?” Cato fiercely glared at him and Thresh’s face quickly turned into an anxious expression.
“Boom Clap, the sound of my heart, the beat goes on and on and on and on and~” Thresh anxiously sang. “You hadn’t let me finish my song bro.”
“Hmph.” Cato groaned. “I thought you are referring to something else.”
This is probably one of the reasons why I hate Cato; he probably just intimidates anyone so easily. When you stare into his angry eyes or if you got caught by his fierce glare, you would probably die of anxiousness instead of being killed by him. He’s like one of the Careers of the 74th Hunger Games, vigilant, courageous, and easily-angered. I probably don’t know what’s going on with this guy. Everything about him is just so complex and weird…
Cato’s POV
Who am I to blame that I accompanied Clove inside the classroom? I’m a gentleman and I accompanied her to the classroom of course, not that I like her or anything. Marvel and Thresh had been always jumping unto stupid conclusions, but I just couldn’t get mad at them that seriously because they’ve been my best friends ever since. But the thing is, they really got me on my nerves when they teased me with Clove. Seriously though, why would I fall in love with Clove? I know she’s adorable and pretty and all, but she’s my mortal enemy since childhood. And those guys already know that I already have a girlfriend. It’s really weird and awkward when they teased me about Clove. I even felt embarrassed for Clove that’s why I got angry at them for letting a new student feel uncomfortable on her first two days in school.
As soon as Clove sat down on her seat, I sat down beside Thresh and Marvel and I gave them a hard thump on their heads, and of course, they began yelling profanities at me, gets them every time. They glowered at me ferociously and I stated my amusement sarcastically. They just looked at me blankly and they began to laugh even though their heads hurt like torment.
“Hey!” A dull recognizable voice called out to me; don’t get me started on who it is. And it probably wasn’t a call; it was a deafening angry yell.
“Speaking of the devil,” Marvel snickered.
“I’m out of here man.” Thresh said, moving farther away from Marvel and I.
Glimmer went towards Marvel and I and she began to slap me on the face and she grabbed my collar furiously.
“What the…” I said, as her glaring eyes looked at me intently.
“What the heck is this?!” She yelled at me, and she slammed her phone in front of my face, more like, rubbed her phone on my face, and the phone fell down on the floor. Being a gentleman, I picked the phone up and I began looking at the screen. I saw a picture of Clove and I walking down the hallway, and of course, I quickly turned off her phone. Oh, sweet nightlock. I guess excuses won’t work for her now, and it’s probably inescapable talking with her.
“You’re such an idiot aren’t you?!” She kept on yelling at me. “YOU’RE AN IDIOT, A DEFINITE IDIOT!”
She slapped me harder on my cheek this time and it turned blood-red according to the reflection of the cell phone’s dark screen. My face is anxious and worried at the same time, it was really strange. She kept on swearing and yelling at me, and this time, she slammed her hands heavily on my chest. I probably got irritated on this, and I’ve had enough of her. I began to stop her by pushing her arms and hands away from me.
“Glimmer,” I said seriously and sincerely. “We’re breaking up.”
