The Mighty Can Fall - Battles Pt1

"Hey Midoriya! Glad we're teammates!" Kaminari laughed, holding out his hand for a fist bump.

I gave him a lopsided smile, awkwardly returning the gesture.

"Alright, so we're going fourth, yeah?"

I nodded, "Yeah. Though, he hasn't told us who we're up against. I imagine we'll be told when our round starts."

"Makes sense. I-"

"Okay, students!" All Might laughed loudly, pointing his finger towards us. "It's time to begin our rounds! Your classmates are already in place! This round will be Todoroki and Sato vs. Iida and Koda! Watch closely-maybe you can gather a few pointers from these fights!" he winked.

My eyes glued to the screen, I watched as Iida and Koda looked over their character sheets. Unfortunately, the cameras weren't placed closely enough for me to see what was written, but I was still able to pick up on clues around them.

Scanning their surroundings, I noticed that the ground was blackened further up ahead. On closer inspection, I was able to tell that there was singed wood, and even a bit of smoke billowing overhead.

"Arson," I speculated, causing the other students to look over.

Kaminari looked dumbfounded. "Woah, dude! How did you figure it out that fast?!"

I closed my eyes, tapping my finger on my chin. "Pay close attention to the ground. Although it's not entirely noticeable, it is darker in certain areas than others. There's also scorch marks and ash on nearby wood. And, if you look especially close, you can see small traces of smoke rising from nearby buildings. Of course, it's not that easy to spot, since it matches the sky quite well."

All Might coughed, awkwardly scratching his head. "Uh, yes, Midoriya. You're exactly correct."

I nodded, a grin on my face.

"I was kind of hoping that'd be more difficult..." he mumbled, but then smiled widely at me. "Though I'm glad that you're doing well already, Young Midoriya!"

The other students smiled at me, approving nods coming my way as I became red.

"Oh, it wasn't much," I laughed, quickly switching my attention back to the screen in an effort to keep their eyes off of me.

As the two heroes spoke, a picture of Todoroki and Sato enlarged on the screen, small fires flickering behind them. Both of them had gas masks covering their mouths, clearly to keep them from inhaling the smoke.

Todoroki motioned to Sato, jabbing his thumb at the window. Nodding, he wandered over, peering through the glass.

He shook his head, likely signaling that the heroes hadn't moved much.

My eyes drifted over to the corner, where large stacks of items were piled up. Then, with further inspection, I noticed paper scattered around the ground, along with charred paper smoldering in the flames. Are they getting rid of evidence?

Sato made his way over to the corner, hauling the stacks over to the fire, where Todoroki was expanding the flames. Sato began tossing the items into the blaze, causing them to crumple and fall victim to the flames.

Confirming my suspicions, they continued this like clockwork, occasionally checking out the window to look for the heroes.

The screen began shrinking, the hero team replacing the villains.

Iida and Koda crept up to the building, staring at the billowing smoke. Iida carefully adjusted his mask, explaining some sort of plan to Koda, to which the boy nodded.
