Bakugou squeezed his eyes shut, but a piercing pain never came. Instead, a blinding light broke through his eyelids, prompting him to slowly open his eyes.

A slight gasp escaped the blonde's lips as he saw the villains frozen, staring at the heroes at the other end of the warehouse.

Several shadows stepped forwards, revealing themselves to be heroes. And, squinting, Bakugou could faintly make out the shakes of Kirishima, Todoroki, Yaoyorozu, and Iida, each looking pale.

Not wasting any time, Kamui Woods bound Kurogiri and then the rest of the villains. Edgeshot quickly leaped into action as well, forcing Kurogiri to pass out as an extra measure.

"How..." Shigaraki trailed off, his voice raspy and angry.

Gran Torino raised his head and his arm. "It sure helps to keep a tracker handy," he spoke gruffly, shaking a beeping device in his hand. "Since I imagine you're curious," he said, sensing Shigaraki's anger, "I'll allow Edgeshot to explain."

Edgeshot reformed himself next to Gran Torino, speaking carefully. "We were counting on using a surprise attack on the villains. However...," he glanced towards Kurogiri, "I suppose it was anticipated."

Shigaraki narrowed his eyes and Edgeshot continued.

"However, due to the nature of Kurogiri's quirk, he was forced to enter the portal last, giving me just enough time to sneak in and place a tracker on him," he explained.

Shigaraki growled, eyes darting between Kurogiri and the heroes. "That useless..."

"We never imagined, though," Gran Torino spoke up, "You'd been keeping both boys hostage."

Bakugou's eyes widened and he began to speak, when Toc kicked his ankle. Bakugou gritted his teeth, noticing the grin on Shigaraki's face spreading.

In one swift motion, Toc severed Kamui's bonds. Shigaraki grinned wickedly, stretching his fingers as he ran towards the heroes.

The other villains followed suit, swiftly dodging the heroes' attempts to subdue them and firing off their own attacks.

Toc, using the chaos as a distraction, glanced around and slipped out the back exit.

Narrowing his eyes, Bakugou exploded the rope keeping him bound before following him out the door.

Bakugou flung the door open, cold breeze tickling his skin. He opened his mouth to speak, but only saw as Toc writhed on the ground before falling silent.

"Wh-"

The boy suddenly began to cough and breathe heavily before weakly pushing himself on his hands and knees. "I thought I might be able to escape," he laughed shakily. "I guess I'm not entirely used to this quirk, though."

Bakugou's eyes widened. Another quirk...?

Shōki glanced at Bakugou. "Just finish me off. I'd rather die than be captured."

A chill went down the blonde's spine. Shōki's eyes didn't waver at all, even as he spoke of his own death.

Bakugou stared for a moment before finally speaking. "No."

Shōki sighed, closing his eyes. "I was afraid you'd say that. Well then," he pushed himself off the ground, coughing. "I guess I have no choice."

Bakugou watched cautiously as the boy rose, facing him with piercing green eyes. Back to normal, then.

"If you won't kill me..." Shōki sighed, raising his head. "I'll just have to kill you."

---

Bakugou felt as if he should be surprised. But at that point, he just laughed.

Shōki raised a brow, but the blonde didn't respond to his gesture. Shaking it off, Shōki raced towards Bakugou, only for him to open his arms wide and smile.

Narrowing his eyes, Shōki pulled a knife from his pocket and slashed at Bakugou wildly. Bakugou, with each cut, gritted his teeth, met by the stinging sensation. But even as the blood dripped from his gashes, he wouldn't move.

After several attempts, Shōki stopped beside Bakugou, breathing heavily. He straightened himself. "Why?" he asked simply.

Bakugou smiled sadly, allowing his arms fall to his sides. "I'm sorry, Izuku."

Shōki scowled. "If you were so sorry, why are you just now saying it? Why not any of the years before?!" he demanded.

Bakugou had no answer. The breeze whistled, the only sound besides the deafening silence between the two.

"Well?!" Shōki spat.

"I know it was my fault," Bakugou said. "I deserve it, Izuku. I deserve everything that's coming to me."

Shōki looked taken aback, but quickly regained his angered expression. "Is that all you have to say for yourself?!"

Bakugou looked down. "All I can say is sorry."

A stinging sensation - oddly familiar - was sent through his cheek. Shōki's hand hung in the air, Bakugou's head pointing towards the left.

Suddenly, the knife clattered to the ground, Shōki's eyes wide. "You're...," he trailed off, noticing Bakugou's tear-stained cheeks. "You're crying." He laughed, but not villainously. "I can't believe you're crying."

Bakugou sighed, closing his eyes. "Yeah, ya big nerd. You made my eyes water a bit."

Shōki couldn't help but let out a laugh. "You're unbelievable. Being faced by a villain who intends to kill you, and you're poking fun at him."

Bakugou adjusted his jaw, facing towards Shōki with a smirk on his face. "And?"

Shōki smiled, dropping his arms. "I give up."

The blonde looked surprised. "You... what?"

"You win," Shōki laughed, dragging his hands down his face. "I'll never win against you, I guess, Kacchan."

Bakugou's eyebrows furrowed. "Izuku..."

"After all," Midoriya smiled, "I'm just a little bug you can crush."
