Amaya's cheerleader uniform in the picture

Amaya's POV
I entered the school with a huge smile on my face. Today was the final game of the season. Football was like a religion in our school. Everybody loved it. This day was one of the most anticipated event of Avery high and the entire school was pumped.
As soon as I stepped into the hallway I was flanked by my two besties, Nancy and Krystal. This was our daily routine. As soon as I entered, we would come together like magnets and I'd listen to their rapid chatter about the latest gossip, the newest movie or about whatever boy was causing trouble in their life...... all the way till class.
Surprisingly, it was never boring. I was never into the latest gossip or the hottest tunes but the way they made everything seem so important was simply....... quite fun. It was never a dull moment with them. But today, both of them were ten times more hyper then usual.
"OMG we have to hurry. We have like only two hours-- " Nancy interrupted my thoughts, picking up her pace.
"No Way! Wait, do I have my costume?? Yeah.... yeah.... ok, found it. Amaya can I borrow your lipstick? I swear I couldn't find any shade even vaguely close to yours!" Krystal exclaimed, practically running now.
Our destination was at the end of the hallway. On reaching the door, I stopped right in front of it, facing my friends.
"Okay girls, we have done this a million times before and we are going to do amazing. It's going to be chaotic inside so I'm giving my pep talk right here. So, on this grand day let's help our players by doing what we do best---Cheering."
Yep we were cheerleaders.
You didn't expect me to be a cheerleader?
Haha.....
I agree...... neither did I.
But in a school of stinky rich kids where everyone had enough money to buy their own friends, cheerleading was one of the only ways for someone like me to climb the social ladder. Scratch that.... it was the only way. And I did want to have a good reputation. So here I was...... Amaya Green- the head cheerleader of Avery High.
But that didn't mean I loved to cheer. Infact I didn't like it. What I did like though was acting.
I remembered how alive I felt in the theater, in the midst of all the vivid characters and their wonderfully different stories. Compared to that, I felt like a plastic Barbie doll waving her pom poms, during cheerleading. And that's exactly how people treated us. That was the beauty of our school. What a enriching place to learn and develop, right?
For me, Amaya Green at Avery High was just another character. A character for me to play. And that was one thing I was good at.
I sighed and took a deep breath.
You can do this Amaya.
I pushed through the doors of the cheerleader's changing room. As soon as we entered about ten people rushed towards me.
"Amaya! Thank God you're here! We were worried thinking if you were coming."
"Amaya are you sure you haven't put on makeup? How do you always look so good?!"
"Amaya this year's costume is amazing! It's gonna look bomb on you!"
"Yeah..... yeah. Let the girl change at least," Nancy announced, pulling me out of the crowd. I mouthed her a quick thank you and quickly changed into my costume. It was a cropped top and a pleated skirt in blue, yellow and white, Avery high's official colours. I looked into the mirror and smoothed it down. Other girls from our squad started gathering.
"Amaya you look so pretty!"
"Your makeup is on point!"
"Let's take a selfie before the games."
I looked into the mirror. Once again I opened up my makeup bag and started touching up my makeup when Krystal crept up behind me.
"You know it looks perfect. I wonder why you keep fixing it....."
"Well the star of the game has to notice her all the way across the field....." added Nancy teasingly.
"Don't worry Amaya. Dustyn's probably going to be too busy staring at you to even play the game," Krystal snickered.
"Shut up guys....I just want to look good for the final game...Dustyn's just a little part of it..." By now I was blushing like crazy. Who could blame me though!
Dustyn was probably the most popular guy at our school. He was smart, extremely flirty (even the teachers loved him), funny and crazy....... like crazy handsome. Every girl at Avery high had probably fallen in love with those deep green eyes, those enchanting brown curls that skillfully fell on his forehead and that ridiculously addicting smile...... at least once. Those girls also included me. But I had an advantage. He was popular, but so was I. And I was going to make the boyfriend of my dreams into a reality.
Well... I mean, I was working on it.
It's gonna happen....
I think it's gonna happen...
I mean...I hope it does...?
Get a grip Amaya.
Dustyn was our school's quarterback. He was Avery high's pride and everyone knew that he was going to win the game.
And I, was going to cheer for him.
***
"Ok girls. We're up in 5 minutes. We have practiced for the whole year and it all leads up to this moment. Let's not forget why were doing this and help the boys win the game! Who's with me?!" I shouted enthusiastically. Everyone started cheering, and we headed out to the field for our performance.
Our routine was a long one, with many complicated twists, jumps and kicks. It ended with a final cheer and we headed towards our place below the seats. All of us were happy as our routine had gone perfectly.
"Hey girls, amazing work today. Let's hope we win the match!" our principal said with enthusiasm, being the jolly man he was. We all thanked him and with that he continued to go forward to God knows where while dragging three boys behind him. Wait...... was that?!!! All thoughts disappeared from my head as I looked at who the principal was dragging. It was him. Aiden Smith was in my school.
I was dragged back to reality as the commentator starting speaking into the mic.
"That was a wonderful performance by our cheerleaders."
....wait was that Dustyn running over to middle of the field?....
"With the game spirit and energy high in the air"
.....yep. It was definitely Dustyn...
"I'd like to announce the game to begi----"
There seemed to be some kind of confusion. I saw Dustyn asking something to the man and then taking the Mic from him. He looked up as if scanning through the crowd.
His eyes landed on me.
Everything stopped.
I couldn't breathe.
I just stared at him, not knowing what was going on.
The entire stadium was silent, as if they were all holding their breath, wondering what would happen.
And then his face split into a huge smile.
Holding the Mic up to his lips he started,
"Amaya Mary Green. You have captured my heart........"*
