"I'm scared, Brambleflash." Dawnfern mumbled. "Bayclan is really awful."

"It's ok. Don't be afraid. I'll be there and nothing will happen to you. You can always stay if you want." Brambleflash cooed.

"No!" She shook her head. "I'm going where ever you go." She purred and nuzzled him.

Brambleflash licked her ear. "I promise you'll be alright."

"Promise?" She looked at him with wide eyes full with love and pleading.

"Promise." The two nuzzled each other.

The words echoed in Brambleflash's mind as they padded back to camp. Everything happened so fast. Silverpaw and Willowpaw showed up and the next moment, he watched as his mate that he promised to protect, fell off the High Point.

"I'm so sorry, Dawnfern." He mumbled.

"Who are you talking to?" Fernpaw nudged in his thoughts and padded beside him. The calico apprentice looked worn and patches of fur were missing from her pelt from fight

"No one." Brambleflash lifted his head. "Is Silverpaw ok?"

"She's really sad and confused." Fernpaw mumbled.

"Poor thing." Brambleflash hissed, watching himself put on paw in front of the other.

"You're the poor thing!" Fernpaw snorted. "You look even more depressed than Silverpaw."

Brambleflash lowered his head and fought back tears.

"Oh..." Fernpaw mumbled and pressed her muzzle against his shoulder. "I'm sorry about Dawnfern."

Brambleflash shook his head. "Go check on the others."

"I already have." Fernpaw meowed.

"Again." Brambleflash hissed.

Fernpaw lowered her head and bounded over to Willowpaw, the brown and white apprentice that came with Silverpaw.

Brambleflash looked back to make sure that the others were far behind and he slipped under the bush and waited and looked over the small valley and collapsed at the ledge, letting himself rest. All he could think of was Dawnfern. He missed her greatly. They would never share prey together or sleep with each other and they would never have the kits she begged Brambleflash for.

He shook his head, watching as a tear drop rolled off his whiskers and into the grass.

"Brambleflash!" He heard his sister's voice behind him. Robinfeather padded up beside him and sat beside him. "I'm so sorry."

"Robinfeather, I don't need your pity." He said not looking at her.

Robinfeather stood up. "We are almost home." She grunted then walked off with her tail high. "Remember, Mother said don't let your grief hold you back."

Brambleflash laid there for several moments, thinking about Dawnfern then shook his pelt and ran down to the others.

Brambleflash had no idea how Goldenstar was going to take this.
