Her limo sat patiently out front, an old man holding the door for us as we all got in: Dipper, Candy, and me.
I slide in first, followed by Dipper, who was locked in by Candy's seating. 'I shouldn't have come.' I thought to myself, looking over at them.
Candy made no effort to appear modest or restrained, cuddling up on Dipper with such passion that I felt I should look away. Dipper, though not moving in response, kept silent and allowed her to hold him closer still.
I turned away, opening a window as the wind blew in my face.
"So..." I began awkwardly, clearing my throat as I continued. "Which exhibit should we check out first?"
They didn't hear me, Candy leaning in on him to whisper something. Something about photos. About cuts.
Dipper stiffened, his face going pale. A moment passed, his eyes shifting from me to Candy, down to the cuff of his sleeve, and back to me. There was a slight flicker in his eyes, only for his body to move her way and acknowledge the cuddles.
And, in the pit of my stomach, I could feel a small twist of nerve sprout. 'What is he doing? What are you doing? I thought you were going to break up with her. I thought you two would break up... What's happening? Why is this happening?'
My mind began to work against me, cooking up its own ending to that night Candy had come over. After I had left. 'Did he... lie to me? Did he ever intend on breaking up with her, or did he just think he could get away with it?' I bit my lip, sour words held at the back of my throat. He seemed so sure of himself the night he promised to break up with her.
'Did he choose her instead..?' I kept my heart from breaking in the car, my fingers curling around the hem of my skirt. My eyes shot back at them for only a moment, regretting the decision instantly: She was kissing his neck.
My face went red with sorrow, holding in my whimpers as I shielded my face from their view. 'Yes... He did.'
