The ride was short, but it felt amazingly long considering the position I was in. My right arm, being squeezed and cuddled by Candy's vice-like grip, was beginning to lose blood circulation as she brought me closer and closer. If that wasn't bad enough, she took every opportunity she could to make me feel as uncomfortable as possible.
Try sitting next to your crush in a car going as slow as it can, Satan giving you pecks on the neck and trying to snake their hand between your thighs the entire ride over. By the time the limo pulled into the parking lot, I had committed three separate crimes in my imagination. And I had gotten away with all of them.
I was beginning to get lost in thought, only for Paz to snap me out of it.
"Hey." Her tone was shallow. Serious. "We're here, Pines." She unbuckled her seat belt and slid out of the car. Biting my lip, I watched as she slammed the door shut and walked away from the car. There wasn't a doubt where that attitude was coming from.
This looked wrong. Everything that was happening looked wrong to her, and I had no idea how to explain myself. Not without telling her my secret. I wanted to reach out and grab her door's handle. Pop my head out and call for her to stop and wait. Let me explain.
"This way, baby." Candy tugged at my arm, forcing me to slide out on her end. Once I straightened up, her arm instantly snapped around my waist.
"You're so slender, Dipper." She winked.
"Fuck you." I responded, winking back sarcastically.
As always, my hateful remarks left her unfazed and almost charmed. She nuzzled into my chest for a moment, kissing the neck of my sweater.
"You say the sweetest things when you're pissed, but don't forget why we came to the zoo in the first place."
"To meet your parents?" I hissed, looking down at her. She nuzzled closer.
"To remind you who you belong to." She paused, peeking over my shoulder to see Pacifica. Her eyes met Candy's for a moment only to snap them away. She was watching us. "And to make sure everyone else knows, too."
"How long am I supposed to keep this up?" I kept my expression neutral, hoping Pacifica would decipher my body language and miraculously understand how much I didn't want to be here. No such luck.
"Until I say otherwise." She stuck her tongue out playfully, and I was in the right mind to grab it by my fingernails and yank it from her mouth. Instead, I opted for flipping her off with a grimace.
"Oh, you're so cute!" Candy squealed, jumping into my arms for a tight hug. People instantly turned our way, cooing and awing at the adorable little couple that was absolutely not dysfunctional or abusive. Not at all. Trust me.
"You're just so sweet, Dipper..." Candy whispered into my ear. "You keep doing things like that and I'll break your spine the next time we hug." She pecked the hollow of my neck before releasing me, her arm pulling my arm over her shoulder.
I looked around, hoping anyone had heard what she just whispered to me. As I did, she cleared her throat.
"Seriously. If you keep acting like an annoying little shit, I'll post the pictures. Stop screwing around." Her eyes narrowed for a moment, each word mumbled beneath her breath as she spoke. I huffed, acting as though she hadn't basically threatened my life.
"Whatever." With that, we entered the zoo.
