Chapter 8

Dinahs POV *a few weeks later*

It's been a couple of weeks since I have met Normani and I couldn't be happier. But recently she has been distancing herself from everyone and I haven't really been seeing her around school. Every time I text her she tells me she's fine but I know something is up with her. I was broken from my thoughts when Lauren approached me.

"hey deej what's up, you looked deep in thought?" I turned and looked at her with a slight smile.

"Have you realized how normani has been distant lately?" I ask with a sigh as I close my locker.

"A little bit why?"

"I just want to make sure she is okay. I might go by her house after school today and see what's up with her. Can you give me a ride?"

"Yeah sure."

"Thanks Laur." I said as I got at the car.

"Do you need me to stay and give you a ride back, I don't mind waiting out here for you."

"No I should be fine walking back thank you though. See you tomorrow love you hoe."

"Love you too bitch." she said as she pulled off.

I made my way to the door and knocked. I waited a minute before a man answered the door.

"What do you want." the man said with alcohol on his breath.

" Is normani home?" I asked.

"NORMANI GET YOUR ASS DOWN HERE." I heard quick foot steps and saw her running down the stairs. "door" he mumbled as he made his way to what I'm assuming is the living room.

"oh dinah what are you um doing here?" she asked nervously while looking down.

"I came to check on you. You've been distant and haven't really been showing up to school and I just wanted to make sure you were alright." I say while trying to meet her eyes.

"yeah I um just haven't been feeling good lately sorry." she looked at me for a quick minute and then back down at her hands." I reached out to lift up her chin but she flinched away from me.

"Hey, I won't hurt you." I said softly as I tried to bring her closer to me.

"Dinah I have to go before my dad comes back."

"okay. Will you be at school tomorrow?"

She hesitated for a moment "yeah." she said as she finally made eye contact. I leaned in and gave her a kiss on the cheek, at first she tensed up but then relaxed.

"I'll see you tomorrow babe." I smiled at her one more time before I walked away. As I was walking home I went back over everything that just happened. I realized that I was gonna do anything and everything in my power to protect normani from what is hurting her, even if it means us being nothing more than friends.
