Crowley's POV
It had been a week since the Nephilim girl had hit my car. It should have been enough time for me to forget what she even looked like, but that damned woman haunted my quiet hours in the day. A nap...that's what I needed.
Lying down, I closed my eyes. It didn't take me long to drift off to sleep.
In my dream, I could see a bon fire blazing, dancers twirling around it to wild, rhythmic music. The smell of herbs and earth and wine filled my nose. It was surreal. Looking around, I saw dozens of Nephilim watching the dancers.
Then I saw her. She was one of the dancers. Staring, I watched as her feet kept in time with the music. She was dressed differently than when I had seen her. This time, she had on a dress made of what appeared to be buckskin, with panels cut to reveal tattoos covering her body.
I remembered those tattoos. Along each length of her ribs were ancient runes. Three ravens were drawn along each collar bone, wings spread in flight. And right between her wings was an intricately drawn ouroboros, the snake that devours its own tail. They made her look wild and dark and ethereal.
At a lull in the music, she paused to catch her breath. Her eyes flicked to where I stood and she started. We stared at each other for a long moment before she held out her wrist to show a new tattoo. A thin black band in the design of a snake circled her wrist.
"Go." She mouthed to me, her hand outlining a rune. I felt a tug in the back of my mind, as if a chord was yanking me back.
My eyes snapped open and I bolted upright in a sweat.
"What the bloody hell?" I swore, an itching sensation clawing at my wrist. I looked down to see an identical serpent tattoo branded on my wrist. I held up my hand, peering at it.
What the fuck was going on?
