Frank Iero
Beep... Beep... Beep... Beep...
"I don't care, I'm asking you if they're going to live!"
"Ma'am, please-"
"Just tell me of my sons are going to survive! Tell me!"
Silence. A deathly silence fills the room, washing over the ugly sound of the machine attached to Gerard and Mikey, making my heart pound even more than it has been all night.
"They're going to live. But-"
"Oh, thank god."
"Ma'am, your sons have been... injected with some kind of poison were not familiar with. They're going to have to stay here until we find out what it is."
"How long will that- oh. Oh no."
I hear her footsteps grow louder and louder until they reach the door, not stopping until they get to Gerard and Mikey's hospital beds. Her concerned eyes glance at me, not stopping to smile, then puts her whole attention back to her two sons. I watch her hand softly caress Mikey's face, her eyes filling with pain and sadness as she studies the bandage wrapped around his neck and the wires attached to his arms...
"Please just let me-" The doctor begs, rushing up to her.
"You wouldn't understand. Just... let us go when they wake up." She says hollowly.
"Ma'am, you know I cant-"
"My sons just almost died!" She suddenly screams at him. "Its an absolute miracle they didn't. I... I don't know how they lived, but-"
"It was the boy, Frank Iero, who saved them. It was him who heard them screaming and called the police." The doctor says. I feel my face grow warm as Donnas head slowly turns towards me, her astonished face making me feel extremely awkward. I shift in my little black chair, my back aching after the long night spent in it.
"F-Frank? You saved my sons?" She asks, bewildered, tears of what I hope to be joy filling her eyes. I nod slowly, and before I can do or say anything, I feel Donna wrap me in a desperate hug, tears spilling out of her eyes in a cascade.
"Thank you. Thank you so much." She whispers, her voice breaking.
"Mom? What-" A small voice calls from out in front of me.
"Gerard!" His mother rushes over to his hospital bed in faster than a millisecond, gripping him close to her, swearing never to let go. I get up slowly, groaning as my back straightens after the whole night spent sitting in that chair and place myself onto his hospital bed, staring into his eyes.
And there it is. The light, butterfly sensation I get in my stomach every time I look at his perfect, beautiful face.
Then the sinking feeling as I realize he'll never like me this way back, plus he'll probably feel extremely uncomfortable around me forever after this.
Oh fuck.
"What... what happened?" He asks huskily, staring up at me with his huge, golden eyes.
"Frank saved you from... from being killed." As she says this, her voice tightens as if it's hard to say those words out loud. I see Gerard's mind piece the puzzle together as his expression grows from confused to shocked in a second.
"You saved me?" He says quietly as Mikey wakes up and his mom rushes over to comfort him.
"Well, I mean-" I start, trying to stay humble, but Gerard sits up in his bed, leaning towards me and wrapping his arms around me.
"Thank you." He whispers right into my ear, his voice shaking. My heart beating so fast I genuinely think it might explode, I nod, bringing my arms up and around his body as well. For the first time this whole night, I truly feel warmth enter me. I close my eyes, savouring this moment, never wanting to let go. And it doesn't seem like he wants to either. I notice after a while that he's shaking, his teeth chattering next to my ear.
"Hey, are you ok?" I mutter, pulling away. He sits up on his bed, his black hair unkempt and falling in his wide, slightly scared eyes.
"Mom, can I talk to you?" He asks fearfully, turning over to Mikey's hospital bed.
"Yeah sure. Of course." She says, then eyes me as if I'm the obvious elephant in the room.
"He can stay." Gerard sighs, tucking a strand of knotty hair behind his ear.
"So what is it?" Donna asks slowly, placing herself steadily on the side of Mikey's bed and leaning toward Gerard.
"Mom... I think those people were..." He starts, his hands fidgeting with the end of his hospital gown. "Those people-the ones who attacked us, they told us that they were... vampires."
