EXT. INN - DUSK

We see a small and worn local inn at the mouth of the forest.

Rick emerges, still shivering, and can't help but smile at the thought of a warm bed.

CUT TO:

INT. LOBBY - INN - DUSK

As the door closes behind Rick, he approaches a small desk where a stout woman sits, sleepily flipping through a newspaper.

RICK

Excuse me?

INN WORKER

Good evening, sir. Would you like to stay the night in one of our-

(Stifles a yawn)

One of our-

RICK

Any room available would be fine, ma'am.

INN WORKER

One night is gonna cost you fifty-two dollars, sir. This includes running water and breakfast from six to nine-

Rick hands her the money.

She turns and reaches for the keys to the room.

INN WORKER

You'll be in room 4A just at the top of the stairs.

She hands him the keys and Rick grabs a map from the desk before heading towards the stairs.

CUT TO:

INT. ROOM 4A - INN - DUSK

Rick opens the door to the room and lets out a deep sigh as he falls onto the bed, dropping his bag on the floor.

He pulls out the map and glances at it for a moment before getting up and walking into the small bathroom.

He turns on the sink and splashes water onto his face, taking a deep breath of relief, before putting his mouth to the faucet and drinking as much as he can.

CUT TO:

INT. ROOM 4A - INN - LATER IN THE NIGHT

Rick lies in the bed, reading the map by the light of a small lamp. He hears footsteps outside the door.

He looks up from the map but hears nothing, so he returns to what he was doing.

A few seconds later, there is a knock on the door.

RICK

Yes?

There is silence.

Rick slowly gets up from the bed, grabbing his gun from the bedside table and creeping over to the door.

He slowly turns the handle, his grip on the gun tightening.

WHAM. Out of nowhere, Rick is punched hard, square in the face. Reacting too late, he fires the gun up into the ceiling.

Rick's POV: We see Rick's blurred vision as he falls back. He is able to make out the shape of three men walking towards him into the room before he blacks out.
