Protecting My Girlfriend

Regina's POV

"Will we be ordering appetizers?" The man asks.

"No thank you we will start with our orders already." Zelena says and he nods.

"Okay." He takes orders.

"Are you getting the lemon breaded chicken on a bed of rice?" I ask Emma.

"I was thinking that."

"What about you kid?" I ask Henry.

"Chicken fingers." He says and Regina smiles.

"For you three?" He asks.

"Yes um for him. He'll have the chicken fingers with barbecue sauce. Kid size. With a coke. Fries and corn on the side. For us two we will have to lemon breaded chicken on a bed of brown rice with beans. She'll have an iced tea and I'll have cranberry juice. Thank you." Emma says and I smile. We've ordered in twice since Henry found out and I love when she orders for me. Something about it. I don't know.

"That will be up in 15 to 20 minutes."

"You always let her speak for you?" Mother asks me.

"Yes. I actually don't mind it at all."

"How long have you two been together?" Her husband Hades asks.

"About a month or so."

"And you're already bringing her to a family event? It's a bit soon for that, don't you think?" He asks and I see mother and Zelena smile.

"Not when you see a future with the person." I answer.

"So this thing is serious?" Mother asks me.

"Thing?" I ask.

"She means this stupid lesbain phase Regina." Zelena says.

"It's not some kind of phase." I say hurt. Emma's hand comes to my thigh. I smile and she squeezes to comfort me in a way. I really appreciate her for that.

"Don't." She says. I shake my head.

"It's okay mom." Henry whispers.

"Yeah."

Our food comes and we all eat.

"So Emma do you have any family?" My mother's husband asks.

"You are?" She asks and I chuckle.

"Regina?!" My mother scolds me.

"Leopold." He says and I bite my lip to stop myself from laughing.

"I actually don't have any family."

"Why's that?" Mother asks sitting up further in her seat.

"No you don't have to talk about this Emma." I say quickly.

"No it's okay my love." I look at her and she nods.

"I'm an orphan. My parents left me on the side of the road."

"Oh."

"So you've never found any family?" The young girl asks.

"No. But it's okay. Regina and Henry are all the family I could ever need honestly. Going through tough times and being alone made me strong and it made who I am today."

"A dyke?" Zelena asks.

"Enough." I say quickly.

"Mom can we go?" Henry asks.

"Yes we can." Emma stands. She pulls my chair out and I stand up. She pushes them in.

"It's fine Regina."

"No it's not." She takes my hand and we go. Henry with us.

"I'll go to the kids club. You two look like you need some alone time." Henry says running away. I go to our room. I slam the door and turn around.

"I can't believe her!"

"Lovie, I kind of am a dyke." Emma says.

"No you're my girlfriend! My handsome, beautiful, kind hearted, loving, caring girlfriend."

"You're so cute." Emma says grabbing my hips.

"Are you sure you're fine?"

"I'm okay."

"I'm talking to my sister and you're coming."

"No we don't have to do that Regina."

"Yes we do!"

I knock on Zelena's bed room door and I walk in.

"We need to talk." She nods and let's me in. We sit and she sits with Hades.

"I understand this may be new to you but it's also new to me. For you to say that about my girlfriend is so rude. She's done nothing but be nice to you. Calling her.... that was very uncalled for."

"Sorry Emma."

"It's okay. I get that a lot. People see I dress this way. Look this way. And Immediately judge. You can't help it sometimes but you can help what comes out your mouth and what you said was mean. It was. I was nice and I'm trying to still be nice. So I forgive you even after that half assed apology."

"Excuse me?" Hades says.

"What?"

"Don't talk to my wife like that."

"Or what?" Emma asks.

"Emma we're going now." I say quickly. She stands and Hades pushes her.

"Okay dude chill." He goes to throw a punch and Emma catches his fist.

"Bad move." She drops his hand and he tries to punch her again.

"Are you done?" Emma pushes him and we walk out.

"I'm sorry about her."

"My love. Don't be. It's okay."

"No it's not! Don't say it is! You're my girlfriend! Mine! I'm supposed to protect you. I'm failing so badly Emma. And I never fail! I don't want you to think that you're a dyke or something. You're Emma. My Emma. And I want people to see that. And it's good enough for me so why the hell does everyone suddenly care who I'm with?!" She wipes my eyes.

"My love..... please don't cry. I'm okay. I promise you. I am okay. That doesn't hurt my feelings. Okay? Don't cry." She says softly.

"I'm sorry Emma. But it's not okay. So don't you dare say it is. I don't care what someone says I will never let anyone be rude to you like that. I'm your girlfriend and I care and I don't like those words. You my act like you're okay with it but it hurts me for someone to try to hurt you."

"Okay but I think I'll do the protecting for us okay?" I nod.

"I'm tiny. If Hades pushed me I'd be on the ground."

"If Hades pushed you he'd be dead by now for sure."

"My knight in shining armor. Or... a ugly red leather jacket."

"I know you secretly love it!"

"You do make sheriffing look sexy." I say and she laughs.
