Caught between the pressures of society and my own dream,
I can't sleep. My thoughts are becoming paralyzed.
I lay quietly upon the grass in the yard,
looking at the sky and the vibrant colors the setting sun produces.
A gentle wind washes over, causing the static to begin
For a while I had been following my own advice,
Canceling out the negative vibes of society.
But for a second, I could hear laughter, not a sweet laugh, a wicked laugh. It played on repeat. I hear the sounds of incoming footsteps.
I stood up from my spot in the grass and looked around, nobody in sight. The yard was safe, enclosed by gate and fence
Yet, the noises continued. The laughter echoed and shifted into yelling.
Constant nagging, voices telling me to make up my mind.
It's so noisy.
I breathe heavily trying to make sense of the situation,
But I'm left with a nauseous feeling, my head begins to ache.
I don't want to hear anymore.
I hit at my head, confused and scared,
The voices raise volume and I fall back to the grass.

In a moment more, someone buzzes at the gate and the noise ceases to exist, a final calm washes over me, anxiety still surging through my bones, but I also felt relief.
I opened the gate to see a friend.
He was not someone I always liked or cared for,
but I was thankful for him.
Especially at this moment.
A few others I knew stood close behind him with gentle smiles,
My friend held out his hand, I took it.
I stepped out beyond the gate,
And away from the dangerous voices.
