My eyes snapped open and I realize that I was back in the private room of the Blue Lagoon. I was laying on the white couch away from the place I was originally standing, my head resting on a gold pillow. A gust of wind from the open window moved the blue shaded curtains and every shadow looked like a figure in the dark. I sat up swiftly, while my eyes adjusted to the dim light and that’s when I realized I really wasn’t alone.

Shelly, my manager was standing with her arms crossed next to the bar, slowly stirring a drink in her hands. “So, you and Levi, huh?” The scorn in her voice was nearly tangible.

Everything that just happened hit me like a ton of bricks. The dream of my family’s cabin, it was mid-summer and humid, and he was there. Leviathan, the son of Satan and now the reason I’ll be sleeping with the lights on.

“Levi?” I hugged the pillow I was laying on early to my chest. This whole situation just felt wrong.

“Don’t act so stupid. I know you know about my Levi now. He told me to watch over you as you woke up.” I hated the way she said Levi instead of Leviathan and I hated the way I cared. Shelly threw her cup in the garbage next to her and strutted forward, getting closer to me. “You’re just his little whore, you know. Don’t feel special. My Levi only loves me.” The threat in her voice grew murderous.

It irritated me that Shelly and Leviathan seemed so close. Shelly was the opposite from me, where I had brown eyes and brown hair, she was radiant with blonde hair and soft blue eyes. She was fierce and passionate while I was mild and timid. She was tall and all legs. Shelly's body was fit, and was bigger in the breast department. I could see the appeal and it irked me even more.

“Whore?!” I stood up, the pillow dropping to the floor.

Shelly laughed, throwing her platinum blonde hair to the side. “Exactly. Levi is just using you but he’ll throw you away soon and come back to me like he always does.”

“Only because you’re easy.” I quickly covered my mouth in horror. I can’t believe something like that came out of my mouth!

She sneered “Whatever. I don’t know why he’d be into such a stuck up bitch anyways. Do you even know how to have fun?” She put her hand on my chest and pushed me back onto the couch. My eyes widened as I fell backwards, surprised she put her hands on me. “Do whatever you please, but don’t get in my way. Levi is mine, only I can understand him.”

Looking startled, Shelly headed towards the door before turning around and saying “And don’t ever come back here again.”

Walking into the door of my apartment, I sighed and set my purse onto the hallway table. I could hear the T.V. in the living room on with a girl shrieking in the background for her life. Horror movies are an obvious sign it was date night for Jace and Savannah.

I walked into the living room with Jace and Van laying on the couch, wrapped up in a blanket. Van was feeding popcorn to Jace, their eyes glued to the screen. They were an odd couple but they also made it work. He was average height with an average built body. I don’t know what Jace does for a living, and I didn’t know his hobbies. His personality always seemed like he was bored. Savannah would complain that he was too aloof but compared to her everyone would seem aloof. Van is always bubbly and talkative. She was a beauty and had a new hobby every week. Jace was the first to notice me.

“Ally, you look like shit.” He said over a mouth full of buttery goodness.

“I feel like shit.” I managed to fight tears while walking out of Blue, but once I made it to the subway I cried so hard my eyes still felt swollen.

“Ally! What happened?!” Savannah shot right up, making popcorn spill all over the floor and couch.

“Its fine, it’s fine. Stay where you are.” I plopped down on the lazy boy next to the couch and rubbed my forehead.

“Tell me.” Van got up and pulled the blanket off of Jace who grunted in protest and covered me with it.

“It’s just that…” My eyes started to get teary again at the thought of what just happened. I wasn’t sad, I was frustrated and couldn’t control my emotions. “I fell asleep at work, Shelly got mad and then I got fired!”

Van’s mouth fell open in surprise. “Fell asleep?!”

I looked up at her and then to Jace who looked as though he was uninterested. Warning bells went off in my head. “Well… not asleep. More like, um… daydreaming.”

Van sat on the arm of the lazy boy and ran her fingers through my hair, it felt comforting. “You need to sleep more, sweetie. You’re working yourself to the bone.” She sighed. “Besides, I’ve always thought Shelly was a major bitch on steroids. Enjoy your break, school will start soon anyways.”

I felt guilty for not telling Van everything. I glanced at Jace again who was staring right at me this time. I handed Savannah the blanket. “I think I’m going to go to bed…”

“That’s a good idea, get some rest. Everything will be okay.” She smiled softly at me and patted my back.

Savannah and I were like sisters and I knew that my being upset made her upset as well, and I didn’t want that. I loved her more than anything and the moment I could, I would tell her the truth.

I smiled back “Goodnight.”

Jace was the one who responded back, voice eerie. “Goodnight, Ally.”

My shoulders stiffened and I resisted the urge to turn around. I walked straight to my room, turned on my lights and closed my door, I could hear Van laugh through my door about something Jace had said. Maybe I was being paranoid after what happened at work, but everything about the Jace I knew seemed different. I pulled out my phone to text Adrian.

Come home soon.

~Al

Within a minute later he responded back

What’s wrong?

I squeezed my phone to my chest and smiled. At least I knew Adrian. I knew I could trust him and that he was the same as ever, but I also knew that I didn’t want to worry him while he was back home with his family.

Nothing, just missing my best friend.

~Al

It was true, I did miss him, but what use to feel like an innocent crush now felt different to me. I felt different. I wanted to know the feeling of his lips, of his body. I didn’t want to hide my feelings anymore, I didn’t want to run.

Good news, I’ll be home on your birthday. Dinner?

-Ad

My birthday? That's in two days. I bit my lip and texted Adrian back swiftly before turning off my phone, jumping into bed and pulling the blankets over my head.

It’s a date.

~Al
