“Mmm…” I groaned and pulled the covers over my head. Sleeping with the lights on sounded like a good idea besides the fact that I couldn’t actually get to sleep

I huffed and threw my blanket off of me angrily as I starred at my cat poster across the room. My mind was reeling with confusion. I blew a piece of my hair out of my face and glanced at the clock. The flashing red lights said it was 1:30am. I swung my legs off my bed and looked at myself in the mirror. I was wearing my favorite pink bunnies and kittens sleeping tee with grey sweatpants . So, maybe I wasn’t the sexiest sleeper in the world.  I had dark circles under my eyes, my long brown hair which normally cascaded down my back was instead in a messy bun on top of my head. I stood and walked closer to my vanity mirror. Something seemed off but I couldn’t put my finger on it. My skin seemed more pale than usual. I turned my neck and looked at the mark Leviathan gave me earlier this week. The once bruise was now fading and transitioning into something else. I squinted to try and make something out of the blurry looking symbol.

I gasped once I made out what it really was. A giant letter “L” in cursive. I was branded like livestock. I could imagine the look on the monsters face once he realized that I knew, smirking. I clenched my fists and took my hair down and let it fall into place, covering the mark. I felt violated, just wait until I see him.

Walking out of my room, the apartment was dark. I could hear the light snoring of Savannah in the room on the opposite end of the apartment. Sound asleep, something I should be doing. I walked hesitantly towards the kitchen and opened the fridge, to pull out a bottle of water. The light from the fridge spilled across the floor, lighting up the room slightly. I looked around the kitchen, everything that the light from the fridge didn’t touch was dark and shadowed. I took a sip of my water before closing the door and cutting off the light.

I turned around and the bottle of water slipped from my hands in surprise, water splashed out of the plastic bottle and onto the tile floor, splattering onto my bare feet.

“Boo.” Jace said monotone. He was sitting on the counter in front of me, like he’s been there the whole time.

“W-what…” Before I could finish my sentence he put a finger to my lips.

“Shhh, it’s time to take you home, my dear sister-in-law.”

It was like time stood still, I couldn’t move, my body was frozen in place. Jace smiled at me and tilted his head.

“Ah, this is so bothersome. I don’t even see what’s so great about you.” His smile grew. “I could take you for myself right now, just to get under Leviathan’s skin.”

My heart was thudding against my chest. Jace was different from before, his eyes baby blue eyes were darker, greyer. His voice which use to be soft and drawn out was now more pronounce, and thoughtful. I tried to move my hand but it only moved slightly, Jace’s eyes zoomed in on the movement.

“Peculiar. Well, let’s get this show on the road, shall we?”  He moved his hand to my neck, lightly brushing pasted the Leviathan’s mark. “This might hurt a bit.” His voice was emotionless. His hand was swift in the action as he used two fingers against a pressure point. The pain was brief before my eyes closed on their own and before I fell to the depths of my conscious, I heard Jace chuckle lightly.

“You think she’s dead?” I heard a high pitch voice say sweetly.

“Hush, child and prepare the gown. She’ll awaken any moment now.” An older more gravelly voice responded.

You could heard the pouting in the sweet voice prominently as she said “Did you think they’ll let me keep her?”

The voices faded back out as I feel deeper into sleep.
