Betty's P.O.V.

It was just another day of school. The sun was shining, the birds were chirping, my dad was watching tv in the living room, my mom was making breakfast, and my sister, Polly, was studying in her room.

I climbed out of bed, rubbing my tired eyes as I walked towards the washroom to start my day.

When I finished getting ready, I stumbled down the stairs and sat down at the breakfast table next to Polly.

"Good morning, Betty," they all said to me.

"Morning," I replied, dunking my spoon into my bowl of cereal.

"You ready for your exams this week?" Polly asked.

"I think so. Were they hard when you did them?"

"Not that hard, but it's a good thing you studied."

I nodded and continued eating my breakfast. Once I finished, I grabbed my backpack, swung it over my shoulders, and waved goodbye to everyone as I exited the house.

As I walked down the driveway, I spotted Archie crossing the road and called out to him.

He turned to me and smiled. "Hi, Betty."

"Hey, Arch. Wait up!"

I started running towards him when I saw a car heading our way at full speed. My eyes went wide and I backed up to the side of the road.

"Archie, watch out!" I called. "Get out of the way!"

He glanced at me before shifting his gaze towards the silver SUV only a few feet ahead of him now. His eyes widened and he turned to run to the side, but it was too late.

The car ran right over him.

"ARCHIE!!!!" I screamed.

I ran over to him, sprawled out across the road. Tears streamed down my face.

"Betty," he choked out.

"H-hang on, Arch," I said, pulling out my phone as fast as I could and dialling 911. "I'm c-calling you an a-ambulance. Just stay w-with me."

"O-ok-kay."

When someone picked up on the other end, I told them what had happened and that I needed an ambulance as soon as possible. I gave him Archie's address and he said that an ambulance should be there in about a minute.

"They said they'll be here soon," I said, hanging up. "J-just one m-minute, hopefully l-less."

"Did you see who was in the car?"

"No, I-I didn't. D-did you?"

"No."

I sat back and examined him. His right arm was mangled, definitely broken, a bone jutting out from his elbow. His left leg was also broken, a bone clearly sticking out.

"Where does it hurt?" I asked.

"Everywhere."

"It doesn't sound like you're in pain. It definitely looks like you are, though."

"I'm trying to stay calm. It hurts like hell, but I-I shouldn't freak out. I'll be fine."

"O-okay Arch. I b-believe you."
