Jughead's P.O.V.
I grabbed my Serpent jacket as I raced out the door, my dad calling, "Don't be late again!"
"Tell JB I say good luck with her History test," I called back, clipping on my helmet as I sat down on my motorcycle.
My dad walked to the front door, leaning his head outside as he smiled at me. I smiled back before waving goodbye and speeding off on my motorcycle.
As I drove to school, no one glared at the snakes on my jacket or glared at me. No one watched me fearfully or turned to whisper to anyone standing near them. After years and years of argument and disagreement, the Northside and Southside made peace with each other and are no longer constantly at war.
When I got to school, I parked my motorcycle in the parking lot, took off my helmet, and walked inside.
The second I did, Reggie, Moose, and Jason walked up to me, most people in the halls looking over but not saying anything.
"Hey, dude," Jason said.
"What's up, Jug," Reggie said.
"Hey, guys," I replied.
"We've got that football game today, you ready?" Moose asked.
"Hey, Juggie," one of the girls said to me as I walked past, her hand lightly grazing across my jacket.
Not interested, I thought as I continued walking.
"Hello, hottie," one of the cheerleaders piped, blocking my path and placing her hands on my shoulders.
I shook her off and walked around her.
"Hey, hey, whoa," Reggie said. "Two girls, amazingly hot girls, just tried to come onto you, and you pushed them away? What's up with you, dude?"
"I just . . . I'm kinda tired of having meaningless flings. I want a relationship, y'know?"
All three guys gave me a blank look, like I was speaking a different language.
"No, we don't know," Moose said. "You seriously want a relationship?"
"Shut up," I said. "The right girl will come along. I know she will. I just have to wait for her."
"Well, enjoy being a one-girl man," Jason said. "Moose, let's go."
Moose and Jason separated from Reggie and me and turned the corner.
I rolled my eyes and exhaled.
"It's fine, dude," Reggie said. "They're assholes. I get the whole 'I wanna wait for the right one' thing. They don't. It's whatever."
"Thanks, dude."
"Course. What are brothers for?"
Reggie and I weren't really brothers, but we were super close, so we might as well have been.
We continued walking down the halls when a blonde girl with a ponytail and a stack of books in her arms rounded the corner. She looked kind of familiar, like she was in one of my classes or something, but I didn't know her.
She had her head down and was walking fast, like she was avoiding something. Before I knew it, she was walking my way, right my way, and smashed into me, her books tumbling to the floor.
"Shit," she mumbled. "I-I'm so s-sorry."
She crouched down and began picking up her books.
I opened my mouth to tell her it was fine, but Reggie cut me off.
