Seongmin was restless that night. With everything that had happened in the last few hours, her mind just could not let her sleep, her drifting in and out of strange dreams that were driving her closer to insanity every time they woke her up.
For God's sake, she thought. Can I please sleep? Please?
Unfortunately, her body said no.
When the first rays of dawn hit her face despite her best efforts to sleep through them, Seongmin gave up, sitting up in bed and rubbing her eyes with the heels of her hands. It was going to be a long day.
She looked around at the guest room where she was staying. It was small but cozy, with a dresser in the corner and a twin bed pressed up against the outer wall where a window gave the user a view of the side yard as well as the house next door. The wallpaper of the room was a warm beige color, with grey carpet and white curtains framing the window. A small bedside table with a few everyday items stood next to the headboard of the bed.
Seongmin wanted to push the window open, but it being late October, it was more than a bit chilly outside. No need to cause herself more pain than she was already in from her stress over the situation.
Seongmin moved over to a small mirror that stood atop the bedside table. Looking at herself, Seongmin almost laughed. Her hair looked as if it had been through a war, tangled and sticking out in random places. Dark circles under her eyes became only more apparent in the early morning light, making it look like she'd been through a week in the wilderness with minimal rest. Her cheeks were flushed with color, courtesy of the heat of a small space heater in the corner she had neglected to turn off while she was asleep. Long story short, Seongmin was a mess.
A rapping at her doorway made her turn, and she smiled when she saw Hoseok, grinning softly at her, drumming his fingers on the doorframe.
"What are you doing up so early, Hoseok?"
"Just wanted to check on you," he said. "I figured you might have trouble sleeping what with everything going on."
Seongmin smiled, sighing as she ran a hand through her hair. "Thanks, Hoseok. I'm okay, just... exhausted." She ended this last statement with a small laugh, knowing it must have been apparent by her appearance exactly how she felt.
Hoseok chuckled. "Why don't you come downstairs? We have coffee or hot chocolate if you'd like, you look like you could use a warm drink right about now."
Seongmin smiled again. "Thank you, Hoseok. I'll come down in a minute."
He nodded and left her alone in her room. Looking over to the side, she smiled when she saw a hairbrush and some clothes left on top of the dresser, most likely by her new roommate. After a quick shower, Seongmin attempted to tame her wild hair, eventually getting it to go straight and pulling it back into a tight ponytail. She changed into the clothes left for her, a black T-shirt a couple sizes too large for her and grey sweatpants, which she pulled the strings of tightly around her waist to keep them from falling off. She didn't know if the shirt was Hoseok's or her other roommate's, but whoever its owner was had either overestimated their shoulder size or had really wide shoulders. Seongmin laughed at the thought of Hoseok accidentally getting a shirt too large for himself, realizing she could easily picture the dork doing something like that.
Seongmin headed downstairs, the scent of coffee and hot chocolate filling the air as she did. She laughed a bit as she saw Hoseok, making some kind of biscuits to go with the drinks, apparently not realizing his shirt was on backwards.
