On a pleasant spring Tuesday, the trees and bushes were blossoming with flowers, and leaves were slowly drifting down toward the ground.
It was one of those dreamy days, the ones where you felt like any sudden movement would cause you to awaken, a fantasy you didn't want to wake up from.

Like a scene from a high school anime, students flowed into the imposing red-brick school building, in clusters. Their white shoes trod over the pastel petals, flattening them against the pavement. Like always, the air was filled with the hum of voices, but today was louder than the days before.

It was nearing the middle-end of the fourth quarter, and school was almost over. This time of year was filled full of various activities. Clubs ending, student council running for next year, and of course, the spring formal.

The spring formal was always seen as more romantic than the other dances. Maybe it was because of the beautiful scenery. Maybe because the feeling carried on from White Day or even Valentine's Day. Maybe it was spread along with the floating petals.

Whatever the case, this formal was seen as the most important one, and for any budding couples, it was extremely important not to screw up. This dance determined your romantic future. Heaven forbid you get rejected.

I think you can understand why Wooseok skipped class that Tuesday, then.

It started when a student volunteer started putting up a ton of posters all around school announcing the theme and date of the dance. Cherry Blossom Festival, May 30th. Groups of girls scattered across the hallway were freaking out about what they were going to wear and if anyone was going to ask them out, while some guys were complaining about the dance being a waste of time.

Wooseok was not one of those guys. He really enjoyed dances and the energy that came with it. It was a day where you didn't have to put on your usual persona, where you could be free and just dance. He often felt that too many students were too restricted, sacrificing fun just to be "cool".

He didn't see the point of that.

Wooseok was determined to make the spring formal fun for everyone, and he was prepared to use force.

Meanwhile, the only thought Mira had about the dance was "the cherry blossom festival happened literally a month ago". She wasn't a huge fan of the spring formal, disliking the food, the dressing-up, the dancing, the atmosphere, the romances that would start and then abruptly end a month later (if that). The only thing she enjoyed was...

Actually, she couldn't think of anything.

So when Wooseok and Mira met up in class, with him excitedly gushing and her passionately grumbling, they both had to stop for a second and regroup.

"Wait a minute-" they said simultaneously.

"You hate the spring formal?" Wooseok asked, while Mira questioned, "You actually like the spring formal?"

"I love the spring formal! All school dances, actually. They're so fun! And there's barely any restrictions. What's your argument?" Wooseok shot at Mira.

"I don't have one. I just never heard of anyone who liked going to dances for fun, not just for showing off or hooking up. Unless that's your actual plan...?" She raised an eyebrow at Wooseok.

Wooseok turned crimson with indignation. "I would never. I have more dignity then that, excuse you." He turned his nose up snobbishly at Mira, jokingly.

"Guys, you're blocking the doorway. Let's go sit down." Kino pushed past them, dragging both their wrists behind him.

Once they were safely in their seats, Kino said curiously, "So what's the big deal about the dance?"
