"more tea, baby?" minseok asked jongdae. jongdae nodded, much more awake now as he slid over his mug to the elder.

"yes, please," jongdae said politely, "where did soyeon go, minseokie?"

if only i knew, jongdae.

"i'm not sure," minseok shrugged, pouring jongdae more chamomile tea.

"i like it better when it's just you and me, minseokie," jongdae told his neighbor. minseok gave him a smile.

me too.

"i know you do, dae," minseok told him, "so, has your house been decorated for the party?"

"mhmm," jongdae nodded, "the outside is really pretty, isn't it?"

"yeah, i saw it earlier. it looked really nice," minseok nodded, "everything is ready, then?"

"yep," jongdae said, sighing a bit sadly. minseok automatically noticed.

"why are you sad?" minseok asked him. jongdae shook his head.

"it's stupid," jongdae told minseok.

"if it were stupid it wouldn't be affecting you," minseok replied, "now tell me what's wrong."

"it's just... my father is going to be there," jongdae said, frowning to himself, "like, he's actually going to be there, supposedly."

"supposedly?" minseok asked.

"well, part of me feels like he's not gonna show," jongdae said.

"why's that?"

"cause he never has before."

minseok stared at jongdae, the younger twiddling his fingers like he always did when he was anxious over something.

"what do you mean?"

"it's just- it's just that it's not like he's ever been there before, right? he doesn't call, doesn't send letters, never visits," jongdae said, "and i get it... actor kim woobin is an outrageously busy man. so is my mum, you know? and that's okay because at least my mum calls me to check in, at least she'll visit every now and then."

"he doesn't even call you on your birthday?" minseok asked, surprised.

"nope," jongdae said, taking a sip of his tea, "which is funny if you think about it, since even his assistant calls me on my birthday."

"ah, really?" minseok asked, wincing at the bitter tone in jongdae's voice, "sucky guy. totally won't watch any of his movies now."

jongdae let out a little laugh at that, "yeah, i don't either. it's sort of a game at this point- if he doesn't want to see me, i'll go out of my way to not see him."

"understandable," minseok nodded, "so, what happens if he does show up?"

"i think i'll be just as disappointed as i would be if he didn't, and that's a really sad reality."

minseok nodded, doing his best to be there for jongdae. jongdae needed someone to listen.

"why don't you just tell your mother that?"

"because... she's all excited and stuff," jongdae sighed, "she has this warped image of us being a perfect family in her head. fashion designer mom, actor dad, raising a child together."

"except they didn't," minseok said. jongdae nodded, agreeing with it.

"except they didn't."

there was a small moment of silence before jongdae decided to speak again, this time his voice shaky and quiet.

"and the stupidest thing of it all is that he's an actor, and he can't even be bothered to act like he cares about his only child."

"don't cry, jongdae," minseok said, wiping the tears from jongdae's eyes, "please don't cry. he isn't worth your tears."

"why doesn't he want me?" jongdae cried out, breaking into sobs and holding onto minseok tightly. that seemed to stab minseok right in the heart, because if there was one thing he could relate to, it was absent parents.

"cause he's an idiotic fool," minseok replied, hugging jongdae tightly, "an idiotic fool who doesn't know what he's missing."

"i know he's d-dumb, and it's h-his l-loss, so why d-doesn't it hurt a-any less?"

minseok rubbed jongdae's back up and down, the younger male crying into his chest, wetting his shirt. minseok didn't care. he was just honored that he was the person jongdae didn't mind being vulnerable in front of.

"shh, babe, deep breaths," minseok whispered to jongdae, voice more gentle than it ever had been. jongdae was soon reduced to sniffles, but he didn't let go of minseok even after he had fully calmed down. he just sat there, on the counter, clinging onto minseok like a baby koala.

"i'm sorry," jongdae whispered to the elder. minseok only shook his head.

"don't be, angel, you didn't do anything wrong."

"i'm sorry for making you have an affair, too."

"you didn't make me do anything," minseok shook his head again, placing kisses on his forehead every now and again, "i chose to. and don't worry about that- my marriage was failing long before any of this started."

"minseokie?"

"yes, dae?"

"i really do wish you weren't married, minseokie," jongdae whispered, burying his head into minseok's chest. minseok ran a hand through jongdae's hair.

"me too, jongdae."
