"that was freaking hilarious," sehun said as they walked over to jongdae's house, "god, what a rush- that must've been great for you, huh?""i didn't expect to like doing that so much," jongdae giggled, "she's so clueless that it hurts, hunnie, it physically hurts."
"eh, well, i know her," sehun said, "she actually slept around with my dad a whole bunch."
"woah, really?" jongdae asked as he unlocked his front door, "for real?"
"yeah, which is why i was so eager to do this," sehun said, "sweet, sweet karma."
"so, how did that happen?" jongdae asked him, walking into his house, "do you want a soda?"
"yeah, i could go for one," sehun nodded, "anyways, you want the story?"
"yeah, definitely," jongdae said as he went to his kitchen, sehun following him. he handed sehun a coke from the fridge.
"thanks," sehun told him, "anyways, what happened was-"
"wait!" jongdae exclaimed, "we have to go upstairs and sit on my bed for this."
"why?" sehun rose an eyebrow. jongdae shrugged.
"because that's where baekhyun and i always spill tea and it would feel weird to share secrets anyplace else," jongdae said, tugging sehun up the stairs, "come on."
"alright alright," sehun huffed out, following an excited jongdae to his bedroom, "nice room."
"thanks," jongdae nodded, plopping down on his bed. sehun sat on the edge of it.
"sehun, you have to sit properly," jongdae laughed. sehun nodded, moving so that he was sitting down on the center of the bed, legs crossed. jongdae copied his stance.
"alright, so i was ten, maybe eleven," sehun said, "i had just gotten home from school, my mother was working. keep in mind that my father was built of money- his dad was a millionaire, yada yada yada. anyways, they had an affair, and i happened to walk in while they were meeting up. they had, uh, lost track of time or whatever. anyways, i doubt she recognized me, since i've grown up quite a bit since then. but yeah, she broke up my parent's marriage. feel free to go ahead and break up hers."
"ah- i'm sorry, sehunnie, that sucks," jongdae said, "but don't you think that i'm just like her, then?"
"no," sehun shook his head, "because she's a bad woman, and you aren't a bad guy. you... you're the sweetest guy i know, dae. you wouldn't break up a happy family."
"you think?" jongdae smiled, happy with the reassurance, "thanks, hunnie."
"of course," sehun nodded, swallowing the fear, "my mum wants to meet you."
"really? great! let's go!" jongdae smiled happily.
"maybe tomorrow... i'm a bit tired right now," sehun said, "jongdae, if i were to tell you a big secret, would you promise not to laugh at me?"
"huh? of course, hunnie, what's the matter?" jongdae asked, oblivious to the situation. sehun finished his coke, taking in a deep breath.
"pretending to be your boyfriend wasn't awful," sehun said quickly, "because i wouldn't mind it being a reality."
sehun watched as shock registered on jongdae's face. he pressed further.
"kim jongdae, i really like you," sehun said, "you're sweet and funny and pretty and even though you're loud as hell i don't care because even that in itself is cute. and you're smart, and you're down to earth, and when you smile i swear the stars wished they could beam as brightly.... say something."
"sehun..." jongdae trailed off as it sunk in, "sehun, i'm sorry..."
"you love minseok," sehun nodded, eyes closing, "i knew you would say that."
"it's just... it's just that we really do care for each other and i'm sorry but i don't see you that way," jongdae said. sehun nodded, laughing awkwardly as he scratched the back of his neck.
"don't worry about it, jongdae," sehun told him, getting up from the bed, "i shouldn't have mentioned it, it was destined for failure."
"sehun, i really am sorry."
sehun nodded, "i know you are, jongdae. but that doesn't change things. you like a married man and i like you. tell me, do you believe that he honestly cares for you?"
"what?" jongdae asked, frowning, "of course i do-"
"can a married man ever truly be yours?" sehun shook his head, looking down at jongdae, "to be able to go out in public with you, take you on dates and such. will you ever come first? till death do us part- that's a pretty sacred vow. so when you figure out that it won't work as long as he has that ring on his finger, call me. let me know. because i am ready to be with you one hundred percent, and i don't have a wedding band stopping me from that."
jongdae blinked, tears filling his eyes, "please stop talking now, sehun."
"do you think you could ever properly be in love?" sehun pressed further, not yet dropping it, "while his wife sleeps besides him at night?"
"sehun, stop-"
"it's a no, right? well... i'm not married, and i'm not nearly in my thirties, and i really like you. so please... just consider me."
sehun left, leaving jongdae in tears. thoughts raked through his head- first it was anger that sehun had spoken to him like that, but then it was the dull ache of knowing he was completely right. sehun was right, and there was no fighting that fact.
do you think you could ever properly be in love while his wife sleeps besides him at night?
jongdae already knew the answer to that question.
