2. Nothing Good in Goodbyes

"Hey guys looks what I found on the request board!" Exclaimed Lucy trying to get the attention of her teammates.

"Hey what'd you got there Luce?" Asked Natsu while getting up from the floor after getting scolded by Erza.

"Oh I see you found the 5 year quest. That job request only got here earlier on this morning" Stated Mirajane from behind the bar table, while looking over Lucy's shoulder to see the job request.

"A 5 year quest you say?" Asked Erza intrigued.

"Yup! Normally Gildarts takes them but he recently went on a job with Laki" Answered Mira as joyful as always. 

"What's it about?" Asked Gray with curiosity.

"Well it doesn't have much information, it just says that a town is in great danger and more details will be given by their mayor" Stated Lucy.

"OH YEAH I'M ALL FIRED UP NOW!!" Screamed Natsu "Lets go Luce I'm certain we'll get the reward money!"

"Now let's take a moment to think about it first Natsu" said Erza " It is a 5 year quest after all. That would mean leaving the guild for a long period of time, and the fact that the guild might get attacked and we won't be here to help is quite a problem."

"I'm sure you'll be fine Erza" Said Cana, who couldn't help but eves drop on their conversation "You four are strong mages, and it doesn't seem too hard of a job. But you might want to consider taking Wendy with you, a bit of healing magic always comes in handy. Besides we know how to take care of ourselves, we're mages too you know."

"Mhmmm what do you think about it Master?" Asked Erza, turning around to face the Master, who was sitting on a table nearby listening to their conversation.

"Fine by me. Knock yourselves out my children, but be cautious out there alright? And don't let Natsu destroy a whole town again will you? I'm already in debt"

The guild filled with laughter, as it was not the first, or last time that Natsu destroys a town.

"Hey Cana~San what's with all the laughing?" Asked Juvia while approaching Cana.

"You didn't hear? Natsu, Lucy, Gray, Erza, Happy, Wendy and Carla are going on a 5 year quest!" Answered Cana with a smile on her face.

"WHAT?!?" Screamed Juvia with a terrified expression on her face. She ran towards Gray, who was standing near his team, and hugged him from behind "Gray~Sama please tell Juvia it's not true. You're not really leaving are you?!"

Gray, shocked, turned around making Juvia let go of him. "Sorry Juvia but it's already decided. We're leaving tomorrow morning and we're not coming back until we complete the mission."

"B-but that means Juvia won't be able to see Gray~Sama in 5 years..." Said Juvia with tears running down her boiling cheeks.

"Come on Juvia I'm sure you'll be just fine without me. You've got Gajeel, Pantherlily, Levy and the rest of the guild." Assured Gray

"BUT JUVIA DOESN'T WANT GRAY~SAMA TO LEAVE!"

Gajeel grabbed Juvia from behind, pulling her away from Gray. "Come on Rain Woman don't make this harder on him than it already is." He then walked away, pulling Juvia with him against her will.

'Thanks Gajeel I owe you one' Gray thought to himself, with a look of relief on his face.

-Time skip to the next morning in the guild hall-

"Alright does everyone have everything they need?" Asked Lucy while checking everyone had their luggage.

"Aye Sir!" Replied Happy with enthusiasm.

"I am not looking forward to the 6 hour train ride..." Stated Natsu with a nauseous expression.

"It's fine Natsu~San, I can use my Troya spell on you." Said Wendy with a warm smile on her face.

His face lit up instantly "Thanks Wendy you're the best!!" He exclaimed, relieved that he wouldn't have to suffer for 6 hours straight.

"Alright Master we're all ready to go" Said Erza while facing down to look at the Master.

The whole Fairy Tail guild was standing outside the guild hall to wave goodbye to their guild mates and wish them good luck on their mission and a good journey. There were tears on most of the member's faces, as they knew they wouldn't see them in a long period of time.

Sniff sniff "B-but Natsu I don't want you to leave me again..." Cried Romeo with tears in his eyes.

"Aww come on Romeo, I'm sure you won't even notice I'm gone!" Replied Natsu with a sweet smile on his face, trying to raise Romeo's spirits.

"GRAY~SAMA!" Juvia ran up to Gray and tightly hugged him. "Please don't leave Juvia Gray~Sama... Juvia loves you!!"

"I'm sorry Juvia... but I'm afraid I'm not able to return your feelings..." Said Gray trying not to make eye contact with Juvia. "Besides we're not going to see each other in a long time... so I guess it's best if we just stay like guild mates..."

Juvia had tears in her eyes, because even though this wasn't the first time Gray rejected her, it felt different this time. As if he really didn't want anything to do with Juvia.  "B-but Gray~Sama Juvia-" Before she could finish her sentence Erza interrupted everyone saying that the time had come and that they needed to go.  All of Team Natsu started to walk off and the whole guild was waving goodbye at their fellow guild mates. Juvia was left standing her on her own, speechless.

Gajeel appeared behind her and put his arm around her shoulder.  "Hey Rain Woman, you wanted to go on a job didn't you? Let's go!" It was obvious he hadn't noticed anything that happened, and Juvia was grateful for that. "Hey are you ok?"

"Yup! Good as new! Now lets get Levy and Lily and go to that job!" Juvia replied smiling. She knew she had to get over Gray, and being sorry for what just had happened was not going to help.
