usually, y/n would get sick and get over it pretty quickly. for the past few weeks though, she's been feeling awfully weak.
waking up and going to bed with a headache constantly, always feeling as if certain body parts have fallen asleep with constant pins and needles. every so often she found herself hunched over the toilet, throwing up the food she ate just before and sometimes she found herself unable to understand what it was that someone was saying to her. not to mention, she was practically dead with fatigue.
never before has she felt like this so she went to her boyfriend, jack. the first thing he felt when he was told about how she was feeling was worry. y/n has never truthfully expressed how she was feeling when she was sick, let alone even admit to the fact that she was sick. she didn't want anyone to baby her. jack immediately called his mom because he didn't know what to do and his mom of all people should be able to help with something like that.
she had suggested that it could possibly be the flu, although she wasn't exactly sure what all of the symptoms were. it was his mom though, she was an adult, she must know what she's talking about. right?
y/n locked into her mind that it was just the flu and that she could easily get over this herself, she just had to give herself a week or two and take some medicine. she always wanted to avoid any trips to the doctor.
as time went on, jack has noticed that she's only gotten worse. a week and a half after he had spoken to his mom about y/n and her state, he noticed that when she would stand, she would wobble a bit as if she was struggling to hold herself up. there were a few times where he had also noticed she had trouble walking and he would find himself rushing to her side to catch her from falling.
y/n never had trouble with any of this before. usually she was healthy and strong and never really struggled. this was all new to him as well as her.
it wasn't until a full two weeks after the phone call with his mom where he realized that it definitely wasn't just the flu. y/n had woken up one day, acting like a totally new person. her personality changing a few different times in such a short amount of time and he took her to the doctors despite her protests.
he had listed everything that y/n has been going through and while explaining, he felt the mood in the room shift and a frown on the doctors face.
"you said she's only twenty?" the doctor questioned, writing notes on his clipboard.
jack nodded, saying a quick "yes" worried about what all of this could mean.
the doctor glanced over at y/n who was suddenly giggling and looking around the room as if she was a young girl again. "do you know if she has any family history of any type of cancer? or more specifically brain tumors?"
jack swore he could feel his heart drop to his toes. his breath hitched as he shook his head, "i'm- i'm not sure. she was adopted when she was four. i don't think she knows exactly who her birth parents are.." he spoke quick, stuttering a few times because he was nervous.
the doctor nodded, giving the boy a small frown. "okay, i'm going to have to do a few tests because son, everything you've described to me today are all symptoms of a brain tumor, more or less. and if that is indeed what is going on with ms. y/n here i need to see if we caught this early or if it is in fact too late."
jack could feel his heart shatter into pieces as he looked at y/n who was laughing like there was nothing wrong in the world when in fact there was so much that could be wrong.
a few hours later, after all the tests were complete, the doctor had told jack that he would call him soon, most likely in the next few days with a final verdict on y/n's health state.
jack had thought he did well at preparing himself for whatever the results may be but nothing prepared him for that tuesday morning, getting a call at 8:37 am, waking him from his slumber that the doctor had confirmed that y/n did have a brain tumor and it wasn't caught early whatsoever.
