"Where is she?"

When Rory recieved the call from Emily he had been unable to make out most of what she said. Finally, through the sobs, hit by car, broke through and his heart suddenly sank into his chest. Without a other word he has hung up and headed out to the hospital.

When he arrived, Emily was sat with a police officer in the waiting room, she was crying and shaking, but when their eyes met she her cries turned to heavy sobs. In the end the police officer had to tell him what happened. As the officer spoke, it was like the words were going through his ears but not actually sinking into his mind. There was no way he was talking about his Tori.

When they ambulance had brought Tori in, they had taken her straight into surgery. She had hit her head hard and there was potential bleeding in her brain. That was not even mentioning the broken bones and heavy blood loss.

"Shes pregnant, did the doctors say anything about the baby?" He asked the officer.

"No, I'm sure they'll be able to explain everything once the surgery has finished. The car which hit her did not stop, so we will be beginning our investigation and will keep you posted. If theres anything you need in the meantime this is my card".

For the next two hours, rory and Enily sat waiting impatiently. Whenever a doctor seemed to walk past they would both eagerly stand up, but they would always walked past them. At the end of the third hour one of the doctors finally came to them.

"The surgery has finished but she won't be awake for a while. We managed to stop the bleeding in her brain and the nurse will be putting casts on her left leg and arm when she wakes up".

"The baby?" Rory interrupted.

The doctors face seeme to drop even lower now as he sighed slightly. "Tori lost the child on impact. When she arrived into the hospital we had to complete an emergency c section to stop any further blood loss. The child was not alive. I'm terribly sorry for your loss, but we must be thankful that her condition is now stable".

Rory could hardly understand what he was saying. Again the words would not make sense in his head and he quickly fell back into his seat. The child, it was gone, just like that.

"You may go in and see her when you are ready, but she won't be awake for another hour or so".

Emily thanked the doctor and then sat back down next to Rory, trying to think of something to say.

"Rory... I'm-"

"I'm going for a smoke" he grunted and quickly stood up and walked away before she could get another word in.

Outside, by the entrance to A&E, Rory took several deep tokes on his cigarette. Around him were several other family members and nervous looking people. He couldn't help wonder if they too had just recieved the worst news of their life or where simply waiting to take there loved one back home with a simple sprained ankle.

After another two cigarettes, a guilt began to wash over him. Tori had just been through hell and when she woke up she would be in another darker hell, yet here he was, outside and not with her. Sighing heavily, he closed his eyes and tried to build the strength to go back inside.

Both Emily and Rory spent the next two hours at by the side of Toris bed. The only sound in the room was soft beeping of the heart pace monitor which was connected to her body with numerous other wires and needles. After another hour, Emily went to get them both a coffee.

"Ow" a soft cry filled the air.

Quickly, Rory leaped from his chair and went to stand over the bed. "Tori, honey, just stay still okay. I'll go call the doctor".

"No... just... wait, please" she whispered through pained breaths.

"You gonna be okay" he tried to reassure her and went to reach out for her hand.

"I feel... I can't, I can't feel the baby. What happened? Where's my baby?"

Pained, Rory closed his eyes and tried to think of how he was going to explain it all to her. "The baby died on impact with the car, they had to do a c section and then take you into more surgery as there was a alot of bleeding. You're okay now though, you're gonna get through this".

Tears were building up in her eyes as she listened to him and she slowly pulled her hand from his. How could he tell her she was okay, how could she ever get through this.

"I need painkillers or something. Go get the doctor" she sighed and whinced as she rolled onto her side.

Worried by her sudden coldness but knowing now was not the time to talk about it, he did as told and left her to get the doctors. When she was finally alone, Tori finally allowed herself to cry as she hugged her stomach and sobbed.

"I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry I lost you. Please... please forgive me. I loved you so much".
