"are you sure?" mike asked, looking into my eyes.
"of course! you deserve it. now, go do whatever it is you need to do to relax. I'll take care of everything." I smiled, putting a hand in his chest.
"thanks a lot, y/n. I really appreciate it. I'll make it up to you tomorrow. promise." he blushed.
"no, no, no, mike. you don't have to make up anything. like I said, you deserve it! let me take things from here." mike still smiled ever so widely.
"thank you so much again, y/n." mike turned around and started to walk towards the entrance doors.
"wait, what about our manager?"
"he doesn't have to know, now does he?" i smiled at mike's cute actions.
he just blushed as he started walking out of the mall, his smile still ever so big.
I thought I'd do a favor for mike and let him take off a shift.
we both work three hours a day, fifteen hours a week, three dollars an hour. it's not the best pay, but it's something.
mike has been stressing a lot lately he tells me his family has been 'stressing him the hell out', which I understand.in my personal opinion, I think being the middle child takes a little of stress off your mind.
I mean, mike has an older sibling.being the oldest is horrible.
no one ever pays attention to you, you always have to take care of your younger sibling(s), which is stressful but also have no one to talk/hangout with. you just have to deal with it on your own.mike did say one of his closest friends moved, but that was last summer.
oh and his girlfriend. she moved too.
that must of been pretty hard on him.I have to admit, I did develop a little crush on mike.
I mean, who wouldn't?
but I feel bad.
he has a girlfriend.
but she doesn't even live here, anymore.
so are they really together?I shook off my thoughts as I started to wash the dishes in the back.
ding!
ding!
ding!I stop washing the dishes, dried off my hands, and opened the sliding door revealing mike's friends.
they didn't seem too happy.I'm not very close with mike's friends.
I'm just the girl that works with mike at scoops ahoy for a summer job.
no one very special."yes?" I asked with a slight smile on my face.
"where the hell is mike?" dustin asked, clearing pissed.
"home, I think. to relax. I let him take off the shift for today." I said, trying to be as nice as I could. I didn't want to start any arguments.
"fucking great." the party huffed in anger.
"mike is supposed to be at the arcade. why the hell did you make him go home?!" dustin raised his tone, getting the attention of other customers near.
"I didn't make him go home, dustin. I offered. he's a stressed teen who needs a break. just bike to his house. I'm sure he's there." I calmly said, trying to keep myself from raising my own voice.
dustin walked out rather angry, the party following.
I went back to washing dishes.after about fifteen minutes, I finished washing the last glass bowl putting it up on the shelf, along with the other dishes.
I'm surprised there hasn't been any customers.
a noise grabbed my attention towards the swinging door that leads to the delivery room of the mall.
delivery men come through here with packages for stores in the mall.I took a peek outside the door, seeing men in uniforms carrying boxes.
these uniforms, I've never seen uniforms like these before.
I've worked here for quite a while, and delivery men always have the same uniform: black with a label from the shipping company.
never white coats, ties. never.
I see them walk down the hall for quite bit of time, until they turned.I wonder where they're going.
I went back into the back room of scoops ahoy.
I'm sure it was nothing
I tried to convince myself, but I still questioned: who were those people?
I shook out of my thoughts and felt more relaxed to know that my shift is finally over.
I checked out and smiled to the people who came in for their shift.
they didn't smile back.I ran out of the mall, and biked home, finally away from any worrying.
or at least that's what I thought..
