Prompt- "Could you write one where Miss P finds the love of her life..."

For Fistball_Girl2004

A/N: I'm so sorry for taking like forever to write this story but real life has been kind of hard on me for the past couple of months. Plus, romance stories aren't my strongest suit so it took me a while to get the story started.

Also, I'm eligible for the Wattys, whatever that means. Can someone explain?

I hope you enjoy what I've written, anyway :)

MOVIEVERSE

Miss Peregrine checked and rechecked her list, just to be sure. She had almost everything on there, now all she needed was some flour to bake a pie that Claire had requested for dessert.

Looking around, she spotted the grocery store across the road. Checking the road, though it was never really busy, Miss Peregrine strode across it, her heels clacking away.

She reached for the door to the grocery store and gave it a push to open it. As she did so, she felt the door come to an abrubt stop followed by a small grunt, and her eyes widened as she spotted a man on the other side of the door, holding his forehead.

Opening the door fully when the man stepped out of its way, Miss Peregrine hurried inside and placed a hand on the man's arm in worry.

"Oh, Birds, I'm terribly sorry, sir!" She hurriedly apologised. "It was a complete accident, I didn't mean for that to happen."

The man merely laughed, confusing Miss Peregrine.

"It's quite all right," he chuckled, removing his hand from his forehead to reveal it to be uninjured, "accidents happen."

Miss Peregrine breathed a sigh of relief.

"I'm glad to see you're uninjured," she commented, brushing a light finger across where he had been holding his head, only to pull her hand away quickly, perplexed by her actions. "Uh, my name is Miss Peregrine. Pleased to meet you, despite the circumstances. And you are?"

"Jack Crane," the man introduced, holding out a hand. Miss Peregrine shook it. "Say, you wouldn't happen to be the woman who looks after all those kids on the other side of the island, would you?"

"Yes, that's me," Miss Peregrine smiled, thinking fondly of her wards. "Though I must say, I've never seen you on the island before. How is it you know that?"

"Ah, yes, I'm new here. Just arrived the other day," Jack informed, "and, uh, between me and you, a little birdie in the Ymbryne Council told me about you."

"The- you mean to say you're peculiar, sir?"

"Please, call me Jack. And yes, I'm about as peculiar as they come," Jack grinned, flashing his pearly whites.

"I haven't met any other peculiar in a long while, it's quite refreshing, I must say," Miss Peregrine admitted.

"I bet," Jack chuckled.

"I hope you don't mind my asking, but what is your peculiarity?"

"Not at all. I have a mirror twin," Jack told her.

"A mirror twin? How peculiar. I've never met anyone with that peculiarity before."

"Yeah, as far as I know, it was passed down to me from my great-great-great grandmother. Lovely woman, so I've been told."

"I'm sure she was," Miss Peregrine smiled, absorbed in Jack's contagious happy personality.

oOoOoOo

From then on, Miss Peregrine continued to meet Jack Crane. He even eventually introduced her to his mirror twin and confessed that his mother had never been too fond of his twin, while his father had understood considering his peculiar grandmother had been on his side of the family.

Miss Peregrine and Jack met for at least three months, and all the while Miss Peregrine fell further and further in love with her fellow peculiar. She couldn't help but smile whenever he did, laugh at his every joke, and admire his caring personality.

She had once promised herself in her youth that she would never fall in love; that her children would always come first. She didn't know what it was about Jack, but she had soon broken her own promise and fallen head over heals with the attractive man. She even thought he might love her back with the way he kept looking at her and all of his lingering touches on her arms or waist whenever they walked down a quiet street.

It was only when they found themselves stopping one tranquil night, standing under a burning street lamp in sight of the night sky, that she thought perhaps she had been right. He did love her back.

Jack brushed some stray hair out of her face after it had fallen loose from its pinup, his hand staying where it was behind her head where he had tucked her hair back. His other hand found its way to her waist, holding her gently. And slowly, agonisingly slowly, he leant forward, his eyes slipping closed as they drew together like magnets that were meant to connect.

Just as their lips touched, their first kiss in the few months they'd known each other, something forced them to pull away from each other.

"Miss P?"

Miss Peregrine's eyes widened and she hastily pulled away from Jack, looking in the direction of the voice.

"Enoch!" She spotted, stepping away from the mirror twin peculiar. "What on Earth are you doing out of bed at this time of night? In fact, why aren't you back at home?"

"I wanted to speak to you, but I couldn't find you so I went searching. I was worried and maybe I had a right to be," Enoch said, glaring at Jack without shame.

"There is no need to be worried, Mr O'Connor, I am perfectly all right," Miss Peregrine said confidently. She approached Enoch who turned his glare onto her instead. "Now, let's head back home, eh, and you can talk to me there."

"What about your little boyfriend?" Enoch sneered, glancing at Jack still stood under the street lamp.

"Enoch," Miss Peregrine warned in light of his rude behaviour. Still, she turned back to Jack who was awkwardly itching his head. "I shall see you soon, Mr Crane. Goodnight."

"Goodnight, little birdie," Jack murmured as Miss Peregrine left with Enoch.
