Dave's pov-

I let John sleep in my bed that night. I tucked him in like a child. I sighed, looking at him. He was so fragile. He was like a little crumb in this big big world. I don't know what would have happened if he had died along with Jade. He was my best friend after all. And then there was Jade. She was also my best friend. I still wasn't over her death. And it had been over two months since she died. I couldn't muster up the strength to go to her funeral. And I couldn't give any condolences to the Egbert/Harley family that day either. I still can't talk to Mr. Egbert about it. I was too scared to talk to him at all. I just couldn't do anything. I wish I had gotten to him sooner. Then none of this would have happened. John would still remember his family and friends. He wouldn't have to be stuck here with people he didn't know. He wouldn't have to look at my face and know I'm the reason for all this. Even though he doesn't know it yet. This is all my fault. And there was nothing I could do about it.

-The next day-

"Morning John." I said as he sat up. He rubbed his eyes. "Morwnin." He mumbled. I smiled slightly. He was too cute. "You get to go home today." He looked up at me. "Oh, yeah." He slid out of the bed. He streched his arms over his head. He reached his hand out towards me. I grabbed it and twinned my fingers through his. "Can we get some breakfast?" He asked. I nodded. "Yeah, I think Jane might be cooking at this time?" I don't know if I should take him to the dinning hall or just the kitchen like last night. I don't want to subject him to that. I remember what Rose had said about keeping him at distance from people fro the moment. So, I guess we were going to the kitchen.

We walked into the kitchen. I could hear whistling once we opened the door. "Jane!" I called out. The whistling stopped. "Coming!" Jane called. The black door opened slowly, revealing the short black haired cousin of my boyfriend. "Hey Dave." Her smile faltered a little bit as she looked to my side. Her eyes landed on John. They widened for a few moments before narrowing as she smiled. "Hey John, I haven't seen you in a while." John looked up at me. "Your cousin." I whispered to him. He nodded and looked back at Jane. "Hi." He spoke softly. Jane nodded at me before saying anything. "Let me guess, you guys are hungry. What can I make you?" I pulled John to the serving window. "I don't need anything Jane. What do you want John?" He smiled slightly. "Scrambled eggs." Jane nodded. "Coming right up." She went back into the back room. "She was kinda cute." John spoke up. "What?" I looked down at him. "You know. Like when some family members look attractive but their family so its weird." I nodded. That makes sense. I think.

John was taking a nap in my bed. I decided that I would talk to Rose. I walked into the camera room or whatever she called it. She was sitting in one of the chairs, reading some book. "Um, Rose?" She looked up from her book. "Yes, Dave?" I walked toward her and leaned against the desk. "John and I will be leaving soon. After he wakes up." She nodded. "Are you planing on staying with him there?" I nodded. "Just for a bit." She sighed. "How long?" I shrugged. "The rest of the day. Maybe, until the morning." I sighed, slipping my shades off. Wearing them around people had seen my eyes was pointless. I guess I had gotten used to wearing them so much. Rose stared at me a few moments. "Your doing it again." I said smirking. "I don't know what you're talking about." She looked back down at her book. "You know, you should really pay attention to your eyes." I furrowed my brows. "What do you mean?" her lip twitched slightly. "They get paler when you are under stress. They aren't crimson anymore. They are kinda red-orange now." I rolled my eyes. "I can tell what you're actually doing. And its telling me about my eyes. I know they are mesmerizing but shit. Stop trying to figure me out Lalonde." She smiled. "I'm not trying to figure you out David. I'm telling you that you are very stressed. I think it would be best if you didn't try to stay with John for some time. That's all you've done since Jade died. I don't want something to happen to you while we are trying to help John." I rolled my eyes again. "That's stupid. You said it yourself. That I was the best one to help him since I was the closest to him besides Jade. So what changed? What are you trying to do? Are you scared that I won't be able to help him?" She shook her head. "That's definitely not it. Dave, I just want it to be clear that John might not be able to be saved. And I think it would help you to stay away, if he doesn't remember." I was starting to get angry. Why was she saying these things? "Are you crazy? Rose, he remembers me. And that's it. Are you just going to take that away from him? Take away the only thing he can actually rely on? Is that what you're trying to do?" My voice was getting louder. "Dave, please, calm down." I closed my eyes and sighed. "I'm sorry. I just... I want... I can't..." Rose stood up and walked over to me. She placed her hand on my shoulder. "I know Dave. We all want the same thing. But it might be hard to achieve. I'm your sister and I'm just looking out for you." I slid my shades back on my face. "Thanks Rose. I'm glad you're looking out for me." At lease someone was.
