Dave's pov-

"Whoa there John. Steady." I set John up on his feet. He stumbled slightly. "There you go. Now just stand still." That wasn't the best of advice to give someone. But what was I to do. I wasn't the best at teaching someone to walk. I guess I got that from Bro. He couldn't teach Dirk and I either. "Dave, this is too hard." He whined, slippping slightly. I sighed. "It's like riding a bike, you never..." I stopped myself midsentence. I was going past my boundaries. " Uh, you have to be able to hold your balance before you can actually walk." He sighed. "But Dave!" He whined again. God damnit, he's doing it. He's doing the thing. That stupid little whining thing. He used to it all the time when he hung out. He would just whine about everything.  It was pretty adorable, I had to admit, but he didn't need to do it now. "It's okay." I let go of his hand. He tried to reach out toward me but I moved out of his reach. "Dave, I can't..." I smiled at him. He had finally had his balance. He wasn't falling like he was earlier. "I'm doing it! I'm doing it!" I laughed at his excitement. He really wasn't doing anything. He was just standing in place. But for him it was a big accomplishment.

My phone buzzed as I tried to get John to take a step. "Hold on." I grabbed my phone from my pocket. Rose was calling me. I pressed the screen to answer her call. I put my phone to my ear. "Hello." I nodded as he talked as if she could see me. "I am. Trying at least. He's doing his best." I nodded some more. "I know, I know. Baby steps." That's the only thing he could. Small itty bitty baby steps.
